Job Description

The Operating Room Assistant Technician plays a vital role in supporting the surgical team and ensuring the smooth operation of procedures. Under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, you will assist with patient care, setup, and transportation. Your duties will include acting as a retractor/heart holder, arranging sterile setups, adjusting lights, and cleaning the operating room. Additionally, you will participate in the plan of care, collect test specimens, and maintain a high level of confidentiality and respect when interacting with patients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgical team during operating procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Provide direct patient care as a retractor/heart holder during surgery.
  • Arrange sterile setup, adjust lights, and clean the operating room.
  • Assist with patient positioning and transportation as directed by the surgical registered nurse.
  • Collect test specimens and document patient care activities.
  • Communicate observations and data collection to the Clinical Associate.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and respect when interacting with patients and colleagues.
  • Work as part of the care team to support team objectives and assist other team members.
  • Deliver care in a prompt and professional manner, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Participate in performance improvement efforts and professional growth and development.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of the surgical technician assistant program administered by ARMC is essential.
  • BLS certification is mandatory.
  • Experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications is preferred at the time of hire, with training provided for incumbents.
  • Ability to stand, reach, and walk for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting up to 60 lbs.
  • Excellent hand/eye coordination and finger/hand dexterity.
  • Good visual and hearing acuity.
  • Ability to maintain retraction for long periods of time.
