EXPERIENCE

 

2016-PRESENT: Political Affairs / Constituency Outreach

 

  • National consulting on organizing and political strategy.
  • Cultivated relationships with political influencers, organizational and community leaders, and other stakeholders across the country.
  • Developed constituency groups across the country to strengthen minority communities and foster civic engagement in 23 states.
  • Recruited, trained, and managed over 400 volunteers through grassroots efforts. ??
  • Analyzed local political trends, performed necessary research, and prepared background materials and documents.
  • Coordinated advocacy campaigns, educational forums, and conferences in multiple cities.
  • Successfully identified, cultivated, and stewarded donors raising funds for campaigns and candidates for local, state and congressional races.
  • Implemented voter education, voter registration, and GOTV efforts in across Florida: registered 3500 new voters and made 85,000 phone calls during 2016 elections.
  • Mobilized communities on important legislative campaigns and built consensus among allies and supporters at the national and local level in developing endorsements, delegate slates, and allies.
  • Recruitment of field organizers and other volunteers provided training and support on VAN, Voter Registration, Phone Banking, and Canvassing.

2010-2016: Council on American Islamic Relations Florida, Government and Community Relations Director

Leadership and Management:

  • Worked directly with CEO and Board to create, support and implement short term, mid-term and long-term strategies and programs to lead the organization through dynamic statewide growth.
  • Developed annual calendar of programs in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Implemented a statewide annual programmatic budget: managed timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.

  • Coordinated between departments and regional offices to streamline workflow and maximized budgetary efficiency, transparency and accountability.
  • Worked closely with Department Directors to develop measureable program outcomes and indicators.
  • Administered human resources policies, supervised a staff of three and oversight of 4-6 interns.
  • Monitored, evaluated and reported the relevance of CAIR FL’s work to key stakeholders including thought leaders and policy makers in the state of Florida and Washington D.C.

Fund Raising and Development:

  • Developed annual budgets, work plans, and financial systems that met and supported the strategic goals of the organization. Created and managed development calendar.
  • Implemented and managed the annual major gifts campaign and development activities.
  • Increased organizational fundraising from $400,000 in 2012 to over a $1. 3M dollars at fiscal year-end of 2015.
  • Worked with the Executive Director and program managers to revamp marketing plan to meet program design and needs. Designed all marketing materials including brochures, flyers, newsletters, and annual reports.

Community Relations:

  • Designed and implemented a statewide community relations strategy to reinforce brand, shape culture, and strengthen stakeholder relationships across the state of Florida.
  • Promoted the visibility of the organization’s mission and promoted civic engagement, volunteerism, intergenerational collaboration and cultural competency through ongoing programs.
  • Engaged in proactive strategies to serve as a positive interface with key opinion leaders, elected officials, and multi-cultural organizations; increased support base by 100%.
  • Cultivated relationships with over 75 NGO’s, multilateral organizations, media, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural organizations across Florida and around the country.
  • Planned and executed more than 170 special events, including galas, roundtables, panel discussions, and conferences.

 Government Relations:

  • Established CAIR FL’s first government relations department and recommended best practices for policy and strategy to work with federal, state and local elected officials.
  • Developed and maintained collaboration between all allies; grassroots leaders, volunteers, donors, and constituency groups.
  • Built coalitions with state-wide non-profits and advocacy groups.
  • Strategic planning of town halls and public actions.
  • Developed Media Strategy.
  • Lead on voter registration program and Get Out the Vote (GOTV) for the campaign.
  • Analyzed public issues and legislation from local, state and federal issues.
  • Drafted legislative policy papers, internal memorandum and public correspondence.
  • Led and organized collaboration on lobbying, written and oral testimony in Florida and Washington D.C.
  • Analyzed polling and researched on candidates from local to federal level.
  • Community outreach, supervising phone banking, volunteer recruitment, and assist in the development of house parties.
