PE RSONAL SUMMARY

 

Nadia Carmon is a Biology major and Italian minor at Lehman College. She has been an assistant in the Department of Biological Sciences at Lehman College since 2012 where she first carried out basic research tasks as a Lab Aide and then advanced into a Research Assistant position as an LSAMP-NSF scholar in the genetics lab of Ryan Raaum.  Under the tutelage of Raaum, she is engaged in research concerning the genetic diversity of the East African coast. Her goal is to become an Evolutionary Biologist, where she will apply her knowledge of population genetics to human genome-related studies in health and medicine. In addition to appearing on the Dean's List for the Fall 2013 semester, she holds a certificate in both Responsible Conduct of Research and Animal Care and Use from the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative.

Conducting research on the genetic diversity of the East African coast. Responsible for genetic analysis of saliva samples, writing up research papers and presenting research findings at academic meetings and conventions.

Conducted research on the uptake of cadmium in durum wheat. Responsible for the preparation of nutrient solution, germinating seeds, harvesting roots and shoots, writing up papers and presenting research findings at academic meetings and conventions.
