Research Experience
Principles of Biology II Lab:
Determining possible presence of Cryptococcus neoformans on the Cedar Crest College campus. 2010. Dr. Amy Reese. In this experiment, I was part of a group that tested trees around the Cedar Crest College campus to try and identify the possible presence of the fungi Cryptococcus neoformans.
Research:
Development of PCR-based assay to measure telomere length and structure in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. 2012-2014. Dr. André Walther.
- Studied one of underlying mechanisms of cancer: telomere synthesis and uncontrolled cell growth by using the model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
- Developed PCR-based assay to isolate and amplify telomeric sequences from yeast strains containing mutations in RPA phosphorylation sites to understand its role in telomere synthesis.
- Presented research several times at Cedar Crest Biological Sciences research meetings.
- Presented at the Pennsylvania Academy of Science conference in 2013.
- Written and presented a thesis about research in Dr. Walther’s lab.
