EXPERIENCE:         Shield Laboratory

09/07 – 10/10           Phlebotomy/EKG Technician

     Responsibilities included performing a variety of routine blood drawing procedures; performed blood cultures / venipunctures /neonatal heel sticks.

     Knowledgeable in using standard equipment, which includes vaccutainer tubes, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles.

     Conferred with patience to obtain information for laboratory records, explained procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation.

     Recorded appropriate collection information off of requisitions and transferred to laboratory’s computer database.

     Utilized standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification.

     Traveled to affiliated labs in and outside of the metropolitan area to fill in as needed.

     Prepared, processed, labeled and stored patient specimens and samples according to departmental procedures for subsequent analysis by clinical laboratory staff.

     Worked as a counselor assisting young disabled adult vacationers in numerous day to day activities.

     Escorted participants on trips to amusement parks, shopping, and sightseeing tours.

     Conducted presentations on STD awareness; focused on HIV/AIDS.

     Demonstrated and conducted safe sex workshops, and distributed brochures and pamphlets on HIV/STD, Infectious Disease Prevention, Hepatitis C, Medical Care, and Venereal Diseases, etc.
