Archaeology Experience                                                                       

Field School, Laumai’a Hawaii                                                             Summer 2011

  • Learned methods in archaeological excavation and recording, including survey, excavation strategies, material culture analysis, spatial analysis, GPS, field mapping, stratigraphic drawing, artifact illustration, and archival research. Joint field school by University of Nevada, Reno and University of Hawaii, Hilo.

Intern, Historical Archaeology Lab, UNR                                              Fall 2011

  • Cleaned, labeled, and catalogued historic artifact assemblages from Nevada, Idaho, and Hawaii. Gained proficiency in identifying and analyzing historic period artifacts. Conducted research on individual artifact types. Input and maintained data in Access database.  

Intern, Anthropology Research Museum, UNR                                    Fall 2011

  • Labeled and catalogued artifact assemblages from Pipers Opera House, Virginia City in preparation for museum accessions. Used Past Perfect database. Assisted curator with collections management.  

Anthropology Research Museum, UNR                                                Spring 2011

  • Student Curator- worked on exhibition of Pony Express sites. Made scale models of site features.

 

 

Other Field Experience

  Great Basin Ecology Landscape Lab, UNR                                        2011- present

  • Soils technician- conducted resin capsule and lysimeter extractions. Ran chemistry for Bicarbonate Phosphorus. Prepared soil samples for stable isotope analysis on 15N. Collected soil samples on all horizons using various instruments. Prepared and pumped run off collectors and snow melts. Took sediment cores.

 

  Aquatic Ecosystems Analysis Laboratory, UNR                                 2010-present

  • Limnology technician- Sampled for water quality, zooplankton, fish and crayfish. Processed and prepared fish and invertebrates for stable isotope analysis. Collected benthic samples. Filtered for ammonium, total phosphorus, dissolved phosphorus and Calcium. Identified larval stage invertebrates. Conducted bioassays and YSI profiling. 

  Aviation Archaeology Investigation and Research, Sonoma              2009-present

  • Volunteer – Assisted in field survey of several aircraft sites. Conducted archival research. Submitted releasable information request from Navy for crash site data.
