About the organization:

 

Centre for India Knowledge systems (CIKS) is an NGO working in Research , Extension and publication  activities on traditional knowledge in agriculture.  The extension work comprises training programmes and production of educational material.

The research work includes biodiversity conservation, organic agriculture and vrkshayurveda.

The research activity comprises work on our dedicated experimental farm, actual field experiments, and mining knowledge from ancient texts and local folklore.

            CIKS has designed and developed a number of training programmes to suit a range of different target groups like  Farmer training,Training for NGOs Trainer’s Training Training programmes for students and teachers of colleges,Training on organic home gardening for city dwellers

CIKS has brought out a variety of educational materials that are widely regarded as extremely useful resources for the agricultural community.

Job profile:

• Responsible in research and extension activities in the project namely “Storage forms of Biopesticides” funded by Department of science and Technology , New delhi.
• Research work includes screening out of plants having biopesticides activities.
• Qualitative and Quantitative studies on efficacy of plant products and different formulations against reared insects namely Spodoptera litura  and Aphids craccivora by conducting bioassays in laboratory .
• Conducting field experiment for confirmation of lab experiment
• Conducting training programmes on preparation of biopesticides.
• Maintaining the biopesticides unit.
• Assisting in other vrkshayurvedha projects on animal products, vegetable cultivation etc

About the organization:

PONDICHERRY SCIENCE FORUM ( PSF) is a voluntary organization which is a member of the All India People’s Science Network (AIPSN)

            PSF was founded in the year 185 with the primary objective of Science popularization amongst the masses which was the shared vision and objective of all the people’s Science Movements.

The Centre for Ecology and Rural Development was initiated in 1994 after Pondicherry science forum carried out a couple of successful interventions in Sericulture, vegetable leather Tanning, Fish aggregation Device etc . CERD was created as a joint R & D organization along with the Tamil Nadu science Forum (TNSF) to carry out meaningful and sustainable interventions in natural Resource Management, Health & S anitation, Women0s empowerment etc.

            Starting from 1994 onwards CERD has initiated and completed a number of successful interventions in soil fertility management, agricultureal systems, organic farming , rural technology areas, sanitation systems, Participatory irrigation Management ( PIM), Watershed Development etc.

            Recognition to PSF as a Centre of Relevance and Excellence ( CORE) group under the Department of science & Technology in the year 1996 was another mile stone to PSF in its groth path.

Credit of the Organisation

• UNESCO awarded the prestigious KING SEJONG PRIZE in the year 1992 for Total literacy Programme and Post literacy programme
• In 1994 , PSF got the NATIONAL AWARD for Science Popularization from the National council for Science and Technology Communication, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt, of India.

4	Microbial Production	Mother culturing, sub culturing, and mass production of Azospirillum, Phosphobacteria, Rhizobium for pulse and ground nut, Pseudomonas fleuroscence, and Trichodermma viridi
5	Biopesticides production	Preparing five leaf extract, panchagavyam, vasambu extract, garlic ginger and chilli extract, amirthakaraisal, etc

 

Other responsibilities

• Assisting in writing project proposal to different funding agencies like Department of science and technology, new delhi, CAPART, etc.
• Editing farmers monthly  manual on farming  namely “Pasunthulir” every month.
• Participating in all the activities of  Pondicherry  science Forum 
• Coordinating research activities on the subject matter of the organization
• Assisting school students in science project by giving different ideas in selection of project, experiment method etc (   eg. Make science competion by French govt, National children science congress by Department of science and technology, pondicherry.)

 

Professional skills

§  Well experience in conducting quality trainings in the field of entrepreneurship development( kitchen garden , organic input preparation, mushroom production), organic farming ( organic cultivation package for paddy, vegetables, groundnut,  etc) Science communication ( global warming) etc., 

§  Good communication skill in convincing the farmers towards objectives.

§  Good knowledge in setting up of Soil and Water testing laboratories, microbial production unit, and biopesticide production unit.

  Trainings given

§  Training has been given to more than hundreds of Farmers, Agriculture employees, Women SHG’s and School students in “Vermi composting, organic input preparations, current status of agriculture , alternate methods in agriculture, Microbial Fertilizers, and organic cultivation package for paddy, vegetables, groundnut,  etc  etc.”

§  Many on farm Demonstrations & Training has been conducted in Sustainable Agriculture.
