Jerrie Hiltscher joined the dental profession after graduating from Kansas City College of Medical and Dental Assisting. Jerrie was employed by general and specialty practices in Missouri, Texas, and California. While working for a general dentist in California, Jerrie obtained her California state license for Registered Dental Assisting.
In 1998, Jerrie pursued a career in dental sales and since has been employed by some of the leaders in retail dental supply products and manufacturers of dental products including Patterson Dental Supply, Inc., DUX Dental, Premier Dental Products Company, Mercer Advisors, and Sharps Compliance, Inc.
While working as a Territory Sales Representative for Patterson Dental Supply, Jerrie worked closely with major dental companies to educate her clients and keep them informed of new products, technology, and practice management techniques. She was drawn to the rewards of educating her clients, and accepted a position with DUX Dental, the manufacturers of VanR, Cadco, and Clive Craig products, where her main focus was to assist the dental community in further education of specialized impression techniques, proper sterilization, organization techniques, instrument processing, and products designed to assist dental offices to eliminate cross contamination. While employed by Premier Dental Products, Inc., her focus again, was on educating dental professionals in the area of avoiding cross contamination and breaking the chain of infection through proper instrument care, sterilization, and single-use items aimed at infection control issues. Following a move to Texas, Jerrie worked for Mercer Advisors, whose goal was to support dental practices through improved practice management systems and techniques. While there, she worked with retail sales representatives to train them to better serve their clients through awareness of missed opportunities, and how to develop possibilities that could bring their clients to their full career and retirement potential. In 2006 Jerrie had the unique opportunity to work for Sharps Compliance, Inc., the manufacturers of Sharps Disposal by Mail, sharps containers. At Sharps Compliance, Inc., she worked with dental and medical offices across the U.S. to educate them on waste segregation, hazardous waste regulations, federal & state regulations and proper handling of contaminated sharps. She was also directly involved in the market analyses, and product development of a dental amalgam recycling system, based on the ADA’s Best Management Practices Guidelines.
All of her previous opportunities to educate dental offices, along with Jerrie’s passion for greater knowledge through education in the dental industry, were the inspiration for her to become a consultant to dental offices in the Greater Houston area. Jerrie is continually staying abreast of the current and emerging information regarding OSHA Safety Guidelines, Infection Control Standards, and Hazard Communication Standards to properly inform clients and students of current standards. Jerrie is an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer through the United States Department of Labor, by completing the OSHA 501-General Industry Outreach Trainer, and 511-General Industry Safety & Health courses. She is pursuing her CSHO (Certified Safety & Health Official) Certification. Jerrie has been a member of OSAP (Organization for Safety Asepsis Procedures), ADAA (American Dental Assistants Association), TDAA (Texas Dental Assistants Association), and GHDAA (Greater Houston Dental Assistants Association).
Jerrie has been a speaker for local dental seminars sponsored by Patterson Dental Supply, as well as being a past speaker for Eastern New Mexico Dental Association’s Annual Meeting. Jerrie has had the unique opportunity to work directly with Waste Management Healthcare Solutions to create and compile their OSHA Manual, which is distributed nationwide to their clients. In working with Waste Management, she also conducts quarterly web-cast trainings for their clients to provide additional support for their initial and annual training in the medical and dental field. In December of 2009 she received National approval from The Academy of General Dentistry to become an authorized PACE Provider, to provide her clients with Continuing Education credits through the AGD. She has served as a consultant to many clients and has become a respected resource of information for dental practices and dental professionals throughout the Greater Houston area.
