The Department of Theatre at Villanova University is seeking applications for a Tenure track Assistant Professor of Playwriting. Position begins in Fall 2027. The teaching load is 3-2 courses per semester. In addition to playwriting, other areas of expertise may include: dramatic writing in other media (such as screenwriting or gaming), new play development, ensemble-created theatre, Verbatim Theatre, nontraditional playwrighting techniques, Dramaturgy, Pedagogy, Theatre for Social Change, Gender & Sexuality Studies, Black Theatre, Latine Theatre, LGBTQIA+ theatre, African Diaspora, and/or Asian Diaspora.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the graduate MA program as well as undergraduate courses in the department. The individual is also expected to work closely with students on capstone projects and as a playwriting mentor. A successful candidate will also be expected to engage with Villanova Theatre’s performance season and encouraged to contribute to career advisement and curriculum development.
Minimum Qualifications:
The Theatre Department seeks a scholar/artist with an active creative/research agenda including an established record of professional production, at least 3 years of university teaching, terminal degree is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous graduate-level teaching and professional production experience is preferred.
