The Department of Surgery, at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a post-doctoral associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Melanie Scott. This is an exciting opportunity for a hard-working and self-motivated person interested in pursuing grant-funded research in innate immunity and organ/tissue damage and injury.

Job Description: The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting high-quality basic and translational research investigating mechanisms of cell, tissue and organ injury. The applicant will have previous experience in rodent models of injury, preferably relating to both acute and chronic diseases, as well as in vitro techniques, preferably with both cell line and primary cell culture. The ideal applicant will also have experience with a wide range of biochemical assays (e.g. PCR, Western blot, ELISA), knowledge of isolation of vesicles from cell culture media and plasma, cell imaging techniques (e.g. confocal immunofluorescence and live cell imaging) and experience interrogating large data (e.g. scRNASeq, proteomics). The applicant will be responsible for adhering to all associated regulatory procedures, coordinating with other members of the team, and supervising undergraduates and graduate students on lab procedures and research work. The applicant will be encouraged to generate and lead their own independent lines of investigation within the scope of interest of the lab group and to seek grant funding for projects as appropriate. The Post-Doctoral Associate will be responsible for designing and carrying out experiments, analyzing data, detailed record keeping, developing and writing manuscripts, submitting manuscripts for publication, and presentation of findings at scientific meetings under the supervision of the PI.

Requirements: Candidates should possess an MD and/or Ph.D. in immunology, cell biology or related field. We are looking for an individual who is also team-oriented and possesses excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. They should have the ability to work collaboratively and be interested in working with individuals from many different backgrounds including basic scientists and clinicians. Candidates should also have effective communication and interpersonal skills. Salary will be commensurate with relevant research experience and adhere to NIH Post-Doctoral salary guidelines.
