Faculty Positions in Space and Global Biomedicine

Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, Tenure Stream
Trivedi Institute for Space and Global Biomedicine
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine's Trivedi Institute for Space and Global Biomedicine invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in the tenure stream.

The Trivedi Institute is an interdisciplinary research institute bringing together space science, engineering, biology, and medicine to advance biomedical discovery and innovation. The Institute uses spaceflight and space-relevant environments as platforms for understanding biology, developing new medical technologies, and translating discoveries into solutions that benefit human health on Earth and beyond. The Institute's mission spans fundamental discovery, translational innovation, and the development of approaches relevant to human health and resilience in space, terrestrial, and resource-constrained environments.

We seek outstanding faculty whose research will contribute to this interdisciplinary mission. Areas of interest include cell and molecular biology, human physiology, biomedical technologies, computational and systems approaches, biomanufacturing, sustainable biological systems, and related areas of biomedical science and engineering. Candidates whose research crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries and creates connections between fundamental biological discovery and translational applications are particularly encouraged to apply. These areas reflect the Institute's publicly articulated research pillars while allowing candidates to bring forward their own scientific programs.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain an innovative, externally funded research program; publish impactful scholarship; collaborate with investigators across disciplines; contribute to the scientific programs and intellectual community of the Trivedi Institute; and participate in the education and mentorship of students and trainees. The anticipated distribution of effort is approximately 80% research, 10% teaching, 9% administrative activities, and 1% service activities.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field, including biological or biomedical sciences, life sciences, engineering or bioengineering, computational sciences, and related disciplines; an MD; or an equivalent doctoral degree and have appropriate postgraduate research training.

Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have 1-5 years of experience, demonstrate strong potential to develop an independent research program, obtain external research funding, and establish a record of impactful scholarship. Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have 6-10 years of experience and have an established record of independent research, peer-reviewed scholarship, and external research funding.

Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be made in an appropriate department within the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine based on the candidate's scientific background, qualifications, and research interests.

The position will be based at the Trivedi Institute for Space and Global Biomedicine, 450 Technology Drive, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, research statement describing current and future research directions, and [names and contact information for three references / three letters of recommendation].

Applications will be reviewed beginning October 15 and will continue until the position is filled.

Qualified applicants should apply through the University of Pittsburgh Talent Center at join.pitt.edu, requisition #26005746.
