Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, you'll play an important role in preparing and dispensing medications, assisting customers, maintaining inventory, and supporting safe, efficient pharmacy operations.

Position Summary

The Retail Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in preparing, dispensing, and billing prescription medications while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. This position supports daily pharmacy operations through accurate prescription processing, inventory management, customer service, and maintaining a clean, organized pharmacy.

Pharmacy Hours:

  • Monday–Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare the pharmacy for daily operations.
  • Enter prescriptions accurately into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Prepare and fill prescriptions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.
  • Process customer transactions and collect payments accurately.
  • Offer patients the opportunity to consult with the pharmacist regarding medications.
  • Receive, stock, and organize medication and supply deliveries.
  • Monitor inventory, remove expired medications, and assist with medication ordering.
  • Complete daily audits, controlled substance audits, deposits, and required reports.
  • Fill medication and supply requisitions for hospital departments.
  • Assist with quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality.
  • Keep the pharmacy clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician registration or eligibility to obtain registration upon hire.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong mathematical, organizational, and clerical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative healthcare team.
