Job Description

As an Operating Room Assistant Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting the surgical team during procedures. Your responsibilities include setting up sterile environments, holding retractors during surgery, and ensuring the operating room is clean and well-prepared. You will also assist with patient positioning, transportation, and personal care needs. This role requires effective communication, flexibility, and a commitment to providing quality patient care and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgical team during operating procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Act as a retractor holder during surgery, ensuring proper positioning and retraction.
  • Prepare the operating room by arranging sterile setups, adjusting lights, and cleaning the space.
  • Assist with patient care, including skin preparation prior to surgery and providing personal care as needed.
  • Communicate observations and data collection to the Clinical Associate, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Collect test specimens as directed, following established procedures.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the care team, supporting team objectives and assisting other team members.
  • Assist with stocking and maintaining inventory in designated areas, ensuring a well-organized facility.
  • Provide prompt and professional care, maintaining confidentiality and respect at all times.
  • Participate in performance improvement efforts and demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • BLS certification is mandatory.
  • Previous surgical experience is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided.
  • Ability to speak and write English fluently.
  • Bilingual skills are an asset.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
  • Patient care education or direct patient care experience is required.
  • Interpersonal skills for effective communication with team members.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications is preferred; training will be provided.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, problem-solving skills, and good judgment.
