Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The CDL Driver transports patients from home to oncology treatment sites via Cancer Center vehicles. The CDL Driver operates vehicles in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, including Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, as well as all organizational policies and procedures.

This position is responsible for route planning, dispatch coordination, and ensuring safe, timely, and efficient patient transport. The CDL Driver maintains accurate logs and documentation as required by regulatory agencies and supports vehicle readiness through routine inspections and reporting.

The CDL Driver contributes to quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, particularly related to patient safety, transportation efficiency, and customer service.

This position supports organizational goals by delivering high-quality customer service, ensuring patient comfort and dignity during transport, participating in performance improvement activities, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) in the State of New Jersey required (appropriate class and endorsements as applicable).
  • Clean driving record in accordance with organizational standards required.
  • Medical Examiners Certificate (DOT physical) required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience operating commercial vehicles required, preferably in a healthcare or patient transport setting.
  • Experience with passenger transport and/or mobility assistance preferred.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Demonstrates technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
  • Complies with all DOT regulations, including hours-of-service requirements, vehicle inspections, and documentation.
  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and reports maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Ensures safe loading, transport, and unloading of patients, including those with mobility limitations.
  • Maintains accurate trip logs, mileage records, and required compliance documentation.
  • Provides courteous, compassionate, and professional service to patients and families.
  • Adheres to all infection control, safety, and confidentiality policies.
  • Utilizes the GEO Tab or other vehicle tracking system. It is the responsibility of the employee to report any issues with the GEO Tab or other vehicle tracking systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to hazards and risks of the healthcare environment, including infectious diseases, hazardous substances, and potential injury.

Requires the ability to sit and drive for extended periods and perform frequent bending, lifting, and assisting patients with mobility needs.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to the Administrative Director, Transportation Supervisor or other leader as deemed appropriate by leadership.
