POSITION SUMMARY

Reports To: Outpatient / Unit Director

Training: American Heart Association BLS and HeartSaver First Aid (HSFA) required within 90 days of hire or transfer. CPI required within 90 days of hire or transfer. NCPRSS or CPRS required within 6 months of hire or transfer.

Position Summary:

The Recovery Specialist will engage individuals reversed from an opioid overdose and provide non-clinical assistance and recovery supports while maintaining follow-up with these individuals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Educates survivors on how to appropriately navigate treatment, social service and recovery support systems.

Acts as positive role model to survivors and their families, by sharing experiential knowledge, hope and skills.

Maintains relationships with survivors, and families in order to assists individuals in the treatment engagement and retention process.

Reinforces guides and ensures patients and their families that recovery is possible, and is built on multiple strengths, coping abilities, and resources of each individual.

Assists survivors with gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintains recovery.

Assists in establishing and sustain a social and physical environment supportive of recovery.

Enhances identifies and participates in the recovery community.

Advocates for appropriate and effective community treatment and recovery.

Empowers individuals to make self-determined and self-directed choices about their recovery pathways.

Provides on-call coverage and goes to the emergency room to support the overdose victim when an alert is received.

Provides post-emergency department telephone follow up for at least 60 days to help the survivor navigate the early stages of seeking assistance and beginning a successful path towards recovery.

Minimal Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred.

Lic/Certifications: National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS or CPRS) credential required within 6 months of hire or transfer. CPI certification and American Heart Association BLS and HeartSaver First Aid (HSFA) certification must all obtained within 90 days of hire or transfer. Valid NJ Driver's License required.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in guiding principles of recovery. Bilingual preferred.
