Women's Job List

Sheryl Sandberg at TED: Why we have too few women leaders

The chief operating officer of Facebook, Sheryl Sandberg, raises some interesting points about why men rise to the top in so many organizations and governments. For instance, she talks about how women tend to attribute their success to external sources and men tend to attribute their success to themselves. How can you advance your career if you tell your employer that the great success you had was because of someone else?

She also talks about how women don't negotiate as much as men on salary and don't ask for a "seat at the table". Her argument is essentially that women need to be more aggressive and go after what they want.

To demonstrate how few women are at the top in her industry with a little humor, she recalls a sales pitch where the potential client can't tell her where the women's bathroom is in his own office. She thought maybe they had just moved in, but they had been in that office for over a year.
