Job Description:

Orange County Community College seeks to fill a vacancy for a Success Coach for its TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program, reporting to the Director of the TRiO SSS Grant. This is a full-time, grant-funded position.

The federal TRiO SSS grant program helps colleges provide intensive support services for low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities who are academically underprepared for college-level coursework.

SUNY Orange has established a program that serves 140 students annually and provides much needed and effective resources and services to students who are at risk of dropping out. The TRIO SSS Success Coach provides individualized academic advising, personal coaching, career guidance, and advocacy to support at-risk college students in their pursuit of academic success.

This position may be required to travel between both campuses (Middletown and Newburgh) and other sites, as needed.

Requirements:

Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Education, Human Services or related discipline.

Experience Required: Advising experience employing intrusive and proactive methods. Experience working with first-generation students and/or students who come from limited income families. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work with students, faculty and staff. Sensitivity to the needs and characteristics of a diverse population of students.
Experience teaching student success techniques and self-advocacy. Computer literacy (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with Student Support Services and/or TRiO programs.
  • Experience with developing, conducting and evaluating educational programs.
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Education or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing, conducting and evaluating educational programs.
  • Community college or higher education experience.
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationship with supervising personnel,
    coworkers, all constituents and the public.
  •  Perform well under pressure, within time constraints, with a high degree of accuracy, diplomacy and
    confidentiality.
  • Ability to coordinate work flow while dealing with multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to present complex information and data in a coherent fashion.
  • Bilingual skills.

Salary: $46,705 - $49,518 per annum, commensurate with experience. 

This is a 12 month, Staff & Chair, Grade 40, position and is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funds.
