Position Summary

The Director of Strategy for External Affairs (XA) works closely with the Chief External Affairs Officer to provide leadership to the division in the areas of strategic and organizational planning, financial planning and management, fundraising strategy, and all division operations. External Affairs includes the Policy, Corporate Engagement, Center for Sustainability Science and Nature Vest Business Units. They are responsible for managing a global strategic agenda for the division that is integrated with organizational priorities. They have a lead role in the financial management of the division and oversee administrative functions within the division including compliance, human resources, philanthropy, business processes, and technology and information systems. They are responsible for optimizing External Affairs operational efficiency and effectiveness including analyzing and evaluating XA’s current essential operations and finance service delivery model, effectiveness and structure. This position will assist in the development and execution of short-term tactical solutions while helping to develop and execute long-term improvement strategies and plans. They will work closely with a XA’s management team and will recommend operational enhancements and improvements rooted in the Living our Values initiative and will serve to enhance trust and collaboration between External Affairs teams and XA’s partnership with business units around the world. The Director of Strategy for External Affairs reports directly to the Chief External Affairs Officer.

Desired Skills & Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related management experience, including strategy, finance, business processes, and operations in a large organization.
  • Experience working with a large multi-disciplinary team and managing program budgets.
  • Experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives;
  • Experience in financial and budget management;
  • Demonstrated experience conceiving, managing the successful adoption of, and implementing strategic initiatives within an organization or large business unit.
  • Demonstrated experience building strong relationships across an organization and with partners such as corporations, donors, and/or volunteers.
  • Experience with financial systems, basic accounting, and fiscal sustainability.
  • Experience in presenting to and communicating with government officials, corporate executives, board members and others.
  • Experience designing, implementing and directing multiple and multifaceted projects, setting deadlines and ensuring program accountability.
  • Experience communicating complex processes and ideas effectively to a variety of audiences within and outside an organization.
  • Fluency in English

 DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Extensive management experience including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives and manage performance of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to foster an environment of creativity and professional growth; •
  • Working knowledge of current and evolving trends in relevant disciplines;
  • Experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives;
  • Some experience in public policy and/or corporate sustainability practices.
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience working with multiple cultures and across country boundaries.
  • Outstanding analytical and project management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and implement complex projects in an unstructured environment
  • Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills
  • Independent and self-motivated with the ability to participate effectively in a remote team environment
