  • Capital Markets is a division of Global Banking comprising the Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Structured Equity Finance (SEF), Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Leveraged & Acquisition Finance (LAF), Corporate Risk Solutions (CRS) and Issuer Services (ISV). 
  • This is a role reporting to the Head of Business Strategy and Risk (BSR) for Capital Markets, Americas.  
  • Will be assigned responsibility to cover specific product verticals within Capital Markets and will partner with the global product business management teams/leads and regional/global product risk teams.   
  • Work with Head BSR Capital Markets, Americas, and product heads to facilitate the provision of timely and insightful business performance data that supports strategy execution, based on globally consistent metrics and data sources, and informed by local market dynamics and local geopolitical developments 
  • Oversee effectiveness of Group, GB and MSS aligned support and control functions for Capital Markets, including offshore / third party operations, business continuity and resilience 
  • Enable ensuring a robust operational risk environment regionally, where the business operates in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations, ensure compliance with regulatory mandated local variances, and apply appropriate and effective governance frameworks 
  • Support the adoption of globally consistent policies, procedures and practices, including the adoption of common IT systems working with the team 
  • Promote a positive people agenda across Capital Markets, one that results in a culture and behaviors that embody HSBC’s purpose, values and conduct pillars 
  • When required support engagement with regulators on behalf of Capital Markets, in full partnership with Regulatory Compliance and relevant Global Banking & Group colleagues 
  • Focus on outcomes that promote a positive client experience, with a particular focus on ease-of-doing-business 
  • Work with global, regional and country colleagues to build a collaborative culture that drives continuous improvement and business innovation, constructively challenging outdated and inefficient practices 
Leadership & Teamwork 
  • Supporting the Capital Markets leadership in engaging with business heads, functional heads and other key stakeholders 
  • Support representation of Capital Markets at key governance forums, meetings and events as required. 
  • Contribute to build a global community that exemplifies the culture and behaviors promoted by HSBC’s purpose, values and conduct pillars 
  • Encourage a passion across the Capital Markets’ businesses for continuous improvement and innovation 
  • Help coordinate talent development programmes across the business, that celebrate and deliver diverse and inclusive outcomes 
  • Legitimize and promote a speak-up culture across the business 
Operational Effectiveness & Control 
  • Establish and maintain a robust and efficient control environment regionally across Capital Markets to ensure good operational and financial management as well as compliance with HSBC policy and procedures, together with early identification and effective resolution of issues that arise 
  • Implement the risk and control standards for Global Banking, inclusive of applicable, GB & Group policies and controls 
  • Oversee all first line of defense activities around Financial Crime Risk and Control, Conduct and Regulatory Compliance 
  • Work closely with the Second and Third Line Functions regionally to ensure alignment in the implementation and enforcement of the risk and control framework 
  • Lead on the delivery of the Conduct Agenda within Capital Markets regionally, working with the Banking COO/BSR/CCO partners, regions and Regulatory Compliance
