The Associate Engineer (Water Quality) will be responsible for assisting groups within Metropolitan to ensure 100 percent compliance with primary drinking water standards in the design and operations of Metropolitan’s water systems. You will use your judgment to assess water quality implications from a variety of engineering projects.

The Associate Engineer (Water Quality) will also have the opportunity to assist in preparing and documenting process design criteria to be used for treatment plant and distribution system upgrades and expansions; review design drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with existing and future water quality regulations; provide technical support to Water Treatment and Conveyance & Distribution Sections to ensure 100 percent compliance with drinking water standards, including serving on Quality Assurance Teams; and investigate water quality impacts and provide recommendations on water treatment process changes in compliance with new regulations.

In this position, you are also responsible for special studies to test and evaluate water quality issues that may be experienced at the full-scale level and to optimize water treatment processes to comply with current and proposed drinking water regulations. You will assist in analyzing water quality and operational data, performing complex water-chemistry calculations, participating in field investigations, and preparing memoranda and reports to document results of water quality investigations.

Schedule: 9/80, Monday through Friday with alternating Fridays off

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Assistant Engineer II level; or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience which must have been at the Assistant Engineer II level.

Relevant Experience is defined as: engineering and/or operational experience (4 years with a Bachelors, 2 years with a Masters) with water treatment and conveyance and distribution systems to achieve water quality regulatory compliance goals.


A degree in a related field is defined as: an Engineering degree in the Civil, Sanitary, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical field


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:
License(s):

*Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent that allows you to drive during your employment is required at time of application.
*Engineer in Training (EIT) from the state of California in good standing is also required at time of application.
