Within the Water Quality Section’s Operations Compliance Team, the Cross Connection Technician will be responsible for testing and repairing backflow prevention assemblies throughout Metropolitan’s facilities to ensure compliance with drinking water regulations. The job duties will include, but are not limited to: conducting cross-connection surveys of Metropolitan’s facilities; recommending locations and types of backflow prevention assemblies to be installed, based on the degree of hazard; testing and repairing various types of backflow prevention assemblies; maintaining records of all backflow prevention assembly installations, tests, and repairs; and maintaining records of cross-connection surveys, recommendations for corrections, types of assemblies to be installed, and follow-up reports of compliance. In this positon you will demonstrate your knowledge of theories and principles of engineering; drinking water regulations related to cross connections and backflow prevention; water conveyance and distribution systems; water treatment processes; chemistry; mathematics; health and safety requirements; and current office technology and equipment.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:High school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency and eight years of relevant experience.


Relevant Experience is defined as: Experience with backflow device testing.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.

Special Requirement:
Employee in this position will be required to obtain and maintain Backflow Prevention Device tester certification from four counties, including Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange County, and San Bernardino within six (6) months of appointment.
