Within the Water Quality Section’s Operations Compliance Team, the Associate Engineer will be responsible for assisting groups within Metropolitan to ensure 100 percent compliance with all drinking water standards in the operation of Metropolitan’s water systems. The Operations Compliance Team ensures the water quality-related satisfaction of Metropolitan’s customers, member agencies, sub agencies, and ultimately drinking water customers.

The Associate Engineer will review and summarize operational data to ensure compliance with existing drinking water regulations, provide technical support to the Water Treatment and Conveyance & Distribution Sections to ensure 100 percent compliance with all drinking water standards; provide water quality perspectives to ensure continued compliance with current and future drinking water regulations; assist in conducting full-scale evaluations and process optimization studies; assist with start-up of new facilities; provide disinfection requirements and procedures for new installations, repairs, and inspections of water treatment processes and/or distribution system pipelines; perform water chemistry, hydraulics, and/or water treatment process calculations; provide training to treatment and/or distribution system operational staff on water quality topics; and provide emergency response, including on-call support during off-work hours.. You may be required to collect water quality samples at the treatment plants and the distribution system as needed.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience, of which two years must be at the Assistant Engineer II level; or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience which must have been at the Assistant Engineer II level.

A degree (Bachelors or Masters) in related filed is defined as: Engineering (Civil, Sanitary, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical) or Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biological Sciences.


Relevant Experience is defined as: Working with water and/or wastewater treatment processes or experience in water/wastewater regulatory compliance.


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.

Certificate(s): Engineer in Training (EIT)
