OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY SPECIALIST II
The Metropolitan Water Districtís Water System Operations Group currently has one (1) opening for an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist II within the Operational Safety and Regulatory Services Section located at its headquarters in Los Angeles, CA.

JOB SUMMARY
This Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Specialist II position is responsible for conducting hazard assessments and assisting with the development and maintenance of health and safety (H&S) programs, such as construction safety, shop safety, fall protection, fire prevention and electrical safety; providing guidance to employees and communicates roles and responsibilities based on health and safety standards; serving as liaison between Metropolitan and regulatory agencies, contractors, vendors, and consultants; researching information on applicable policies and procedures, Federal, State, and local health and safety regulations; conducting field/site hazard assessments and assisting in preparing written H&S recommendations; assisting in developing and providing training/presentations to support health and safety programs.

Good oral and written communication skills are needed for this position. The successful candidate will have experience in providing training and presentations, the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, and will be proficient in the use of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This position requires flexibility to changing work demands including change in assignments, work schedules, or work locations temporarily and on an as-needed basis. This OH&S position also requires travel to various MWD sites and may require overnight stays.

JOB DUTIES
1. Assists with reviewing, evaluating and analyzing work environments and participates in developing programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injury or illness caused by workplace hazards.
2. Researches information on applicable policies and procedures, Federal, State, and local health and safety regulations.
3. Maintains required documentation (e.g., inspection, checklists, accident investigations)
4. Assists with the development and implementation of health and safety programs. May provide guidance to employees and communicates roles and responsibilities based on health and safety standards. May serve as liaison between Metropolitan and regulatory agencies, contractors, vendors, and consultants.
5. Collects data related to on-the-job injuries and illnesses.
6. Assists with developing and providing training to support health and safety programs.
7. Assists with conducting inspections and investigating incidents to identify causes and determine preventive measures.
8. May participate on a project team.
9. Performs other related Occupational Health and Safety Specialist job duties as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelorís degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience; or two years in a MWD Occupational Health and Safety Specialist I classification.

A degree in a related field is defined as any environmental, health, safety, engineering, or other science-related degree.

Relevant experience is defined as performing site inspections, accident investigations and/or job hazard analysis; conducting basic safety training or tailgate/toolbox meetings; and/or providing safety leadership in a construction or shop environment.

Required Knowledge of: applicable federal, state, and local Health and Safety regulations, relevant equipment, procedures, and strategies; hazard assessment and incident investigation methodologies; and current office technology and equipment

Required Skills and Abilities to: Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local Health and Safety regulations to workplace issues; proficiently use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation tools; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position are required to maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:
A California Class C Driver's License or equivalent from your state of residence that allows you to drive in the course of your employment is required at the time of application

Work Schedule: 9/80 Monday - Friday with alternate Fridays off
