Metropolitan's Control System Applications Services Team within the System Operations Unit has one (1) opening for an Engineering Technician II (SCADA) available at its Headquarters in Los Angeles, California.


In the position of an Engineering Technician II you will have the opportunity to assist in the daily support of Metropolitan's Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and the design and implementation of Automated Process Control (APC) applications for Metropolitan's filtration plants, conveyance and distribution system. This position will also assist with troubleshooting SCADA software / hardware within specialized areas of SCADA including; client/server applications, local area networks, wide area networks, database systems, server hardware and software, remote terminal unit (RTU) and programmable logic controller (PLC) hardware / software and field instrumentation as well as SCADA software / hardware, and Linux and Windows operating systems.

Your responsibilities also include assisting with: providing SCADA technical support and diagnostic knowledge to operations, engineering, programming staff and field technicians; troubleshooting and resolving critical SCADA system software and hardware problems; identifying and correcting SCADA system configuration problems; preparing reports in regard to SCADA related issues; performing testing and installation of SCADA system upgrades; assisting with the support and development of new SCADA operator graphics; assisting with the support of field staff and consultants during system acceptance and start-up; assist with factory acceptance testing and integration of new systems and hardware / software upgrades; assist with project coordination with consultants, programmers and engineers; providing afterhours SCADA standby support to operations personnel and field technicians; assisting with the configuration and administration of SCADA system security and network management tools; researching SCADA technologies; and maintaining SCADA server, RTU's, PLC's and network hardware parts inventory and tracking.

This position will also allow you to demonstrate and expand your knowledge of C, C++ and Ladder Logic programming, control system engineering standards, and real time process control programming.

JOB DUTIES
1. May assist in developing technical training materials for area of responsibility.
2. Assists in conducting analyses and investigations of technical issues, prepares reports and may make recommendations.
3. Assists in conducting technical studies, tests, inspections and research for area of responsibility.
4. Assists with preparing and reviewing estimates, plans, submittals, design criteria and specifications.
5. Assists with developing and preparing presentations; may deliver presentations.
6. May represent Metropolitan within area of responsibility to obtain or convey information.
7. May assist with administering contracts and agreements.
8. May serve on a project team.
9. Maintains databases within area of responsibility.
10. Assists with development and update of standards, procedures, guidelines and manuals.
11. Assists with the evaluation, testing, installation, and upgrades of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system.
12. Assists with plant startup for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition instrumentation and control.
13. Assist with performing development, support and maintenance of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system software and hardware, database, graphics, and applications.
14. Assists with real-time Automatic Process Control and Programmable Logic Controller development, support and maintenance.
15. Assists with factory acceptance testing and integration of new systems and hardware and software upgrades.
16. Assists with reviewing and implementing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition change requests.
17. Assists with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system administration, security, and network support and maintenance.


WORK SCHEDULE: 9/80, Employees in this position may be required to work rotating stand-by support to address operational needs and emergencies as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: High school diploma or High School Equivalency Certificate , and two years of accredited college or university in engineering and four years of *relevant experience, two years of which must have been at the Engineering Technician I level (Engineering Technicians I's learn to apply basic skills in procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials and equipment appropriate to area of specialization; work assignments are routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. Specific and detailed guidelines covering all aspects of the assignment are provided; work is in strict adherence to the guidelines; deviations must be authorized. The work consists of tasks that are clear-cut and directly related).
*Relevant experience is defined as SCADA, Control System, Remote Terminal Unit, Programmable Logic Controller, LAN/WAN Networking, Oracle database, Linux and Windows operating systems, C/C++, Function Block, Structured Text or Ladder Logic programming experience.

General Required Knowledge of: Practical application of engineering science and technology; arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and their applications; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; design principles and techniques; technical research, analysis and report preparation; applicable safety practices; and current office equipment and technology.

General Required Skills and Abilities to: Prepare presentations; perform calculations; apply safe work practices; plan and organize work; read and interpret plans, specifications and drawings; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.


Required license:Valid California Class C Driver License that allows you to drive in the course of your employment.
