Duties

This Media Communications Specialist position is located in the Office of Human Capital (OHC), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If you are selected for this position, you will serve as a website specialist and be responsible for designing, building, updating and coordinating a variety of TSA\'s internal and external websites. You will also consult with clients or program points of contact to define and identify available resources, time frames, priority, and informational content. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating updates and changes to the TSA Internal and External site. Consults with clients or program points of contacts to define and identify available resources, timeframes, priorities, and informational content.
  • Developing workflow and trains personnel on operational usage of content management systems, specifically Drupel, and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Providing guidance to program offices concerning websites, graphic design, application uses, and various web-related publications in order to execute web services projects and initiatives ensuring enterprise-wide coordination and adhering to established policies and best practices.
  • Designing and creating various communication publications and products including websites,newsletters, flyers, and promotional communications for various internal and external customers.
  • Enforcing web design parameters, style guidelines, visual standards, and compliance with Section 508 Amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Plain Writing Act of 2010 requirements.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest trends in web design and services, and evaluating those that can be adopted by the TSA to enhance its web presence and online services

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-H Pay Band (equivalent to GS-12), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-G pay band or GS-11 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is defined as applying knowledge of internet and intranet technologies and protocols in developing and designing websites using Microsoft SharePoint and current scripting languages (e.g., HTML, JavaScript, etc.); utilizing Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, Media Encoder, and Acrobat Professional); and using other productivity software such as Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

NOTE: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
