The City of Flagstaff (pop. 70,000), the largest city and regional hub for northern Arizona, seeks an innovative, collaborative and service-oriented professional to serve as the new City Manager. The City Manager is appointed by and reports to a Mayor and six-member City Council and serves as the City’s chief administrative officer. The City Manager is responsible for directing the development and implementation of the City's operating and capital budgets, totaling $238 million, including a $68.6 million general fund budget. The City has a current workforce of 969 authorized positions.
The ideal candidate is a strongly committed individual to public service who has a positive record of achievement and who exhibits a history of building constructive working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. He or she will actively solicit good ideas from all levels of the organization and will have the ability to earn respect and to foster innovative solutions to City problems through sound administrative practices and strategic planning skills. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated track record of effective staff management, community relations, and significant experience working with a council or board of directors. The ideal candidate will possess strong budget and fiscal management skills. Candidates who are creative, innovative and receptive to new ideas with a commitment to positive change will be favorably considered. Council seeks candidates who are interested in establishing a long-term commitment with the City. A Master’s degree and substantial (e.g. 10 years) highly relevant and diverse professional experience are required, or equivalent amount of experience and education.
