Metropolitan's facilities include the 242-mile Colorado River Aqueduct, five conventional water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 2.6 billion gallons per day, nine surface water reservoirs, 800 miles of pipeline, and 16 hydroelectric power plants. 

DESCRIPTION 

ASSISTANT ENGINEER II (CIVIL)

The Water Systems Operations Group, Operations Support Services Section, has (1) opening for an Assistant Engineer II available within the Maintenance Engineering Team of the Power and Equipment  Reliability Unit located at Metropolitan's Weymouth Treatment Plant in La Verne, California.

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Engineer II hired under this recruitment will have a challenging opportunity to work for the largest supplier of treated water in the United States. A focus on operation, repair, and refurbishment of existing infrastructure will allow this position to work on a variety of projects at numerous locations. It is considered an intermediate level engineering position with expected knowledge in process engineering. The work involves assisting with monitoring, evaluating, and responding to water quality related legislative initiatives, assisting with analyzing and interpreting data to develop water treatment design criteria, assisting with preparation of water demand forecasts and assisting with data acquisition to perform water quality analysis at treatment plants. 

Other job related items include assisting with the preparation of engineering investigations, and economic studies of projects; assisting with the development and monitoring of project budgets and schedules; assisting with the development of project work scope and justification; assisting in preparation of Board letters and presentations for project funding and assisting the managers during various phases of the project by coordinating with other internal project teams to ensure the project goals are addressed.  

The primary responsibility of this position will be to exercise sound engineering judgment to assist the Metropolitan Water District's Treatment plants and Conveyance and Distribution facilities to ensure to continuance of reliable and robust operations.

JOB DUTIES

1. Assists with planning, coordinating, conducting, and monitoring tests, studies, and investigations.

2. Assists with preparing technical documents, reports, and presentations.

3. Assists with preparing or reviewing design criteria, plans, specifications, submittals, cost estimates, and budgets.

4. May execute mathematical, statistical, and other models.

5. Assists in performing site and construction inspections.

6. Assists with reviewing and making recommendations on proposals, projects, and programs that may have an impact on water quality.

7. Assists with analyzing and interpreting data to optimize water quality performance and maintain compliance with drinking water quality regulations.

8. Assists with reviewing and analyzing water quality data and provides recommendations to ensure compliance with all drinking water quality regulations.

9. Assists with field engineering tests and activities in connection with maintenance, inspection, and operations.

WORK SCHEDULE:  9/80 (Alternate Friday's off)

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Assistant Engineer I level.

General Required Knowledge of:  Engineering principles and practices in specific discipline; project schedules and budgets; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations related to area of responsibility; and current office technology and equipment.

General Required Skills and Abilities to:  Analyze and interpret data; organize; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position are required to maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

License

Valid California Class C Driver License that allows you to drive in the course of your employment.
