Metropolitan's Engineering Services
Group, Infrastructure Reliability Section, currently has one (1) opening for an
Engineering Technician II at
Metropolitan's Weymouth Facility in La Verne, California.

JOB SUMMARY

The Materials and
Metallurgy Team is seeking a highly motivated individual with Non-Destructive
Evaluation (NDE) and testing experience along with the certifications and
teaching ability necessary to administer an NDE program.  This team is a diverse group of individuals
responsible for materials testing and evaluations, developing NDE design
criteria for engineering plans and specifications, performing field
investigations of water treatment and distribution infrastructure, performing
condition assessments and fitness-for-service of a wide array of mechanical and
structural equipment used in the treatment, conveyance, and distribution of
drinking water, and performing quality assurance inspections of tanks, piping,
welds, and other components purchased or fabricated by MWD or its contractors.  Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) will be
performed in laboratory, shop, or actual in-process field conditions.  All other work is a combination of office,
field, and shop work.

JOB
DUTIES

The duties of this
position will include performing Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing
(UT), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT), and providing training, examination
and certification in accordance with ASNT SNT-2C-1A for other employees who are
required to use these methods.  The
successful candidate will have the skills and knowledge to establish
techniques, to interpret codes, standards and specifications, to establish
acceptance criteria when none are otherwise available, to designate the
particular technique to be used and to prepare or approve procedures and instructions
for materials testing and fitness-for-service evaluations of materials used in
water treatment, conveyance, distribution, and hydroelectric power generation
per ASTM, NACE, AWS, ASME, or other relevant codes and standards; assist in
evaluating equipment for fitness-of-service; and developing alternative
solutions to repair and/or rehabilitate equipment to meet MWD's services
requirements; learning and utilizing various test instruments and databases to
accomplish and document the above.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: 
High school diploma or general education development test (GED), and
two years of accredited college or university in engineering and four years of
relevant experience, two years of which must have been at the Engineering
Technician I level.

General
Required Knowledge of:  Practical application of engineering science
and technology; arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and their
applications; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations;
design principles and techniques; technical research, analysis and report
preparation; applicable safety practices; and current office equipment and
technology.

Corrosion
Required Knowledge of:  Corrosion science; corrosion control methods
including coatings, material selection and cathodic protection; waterworks
corrosion issues and control methods.

General
Required Skills and Abilities to:  Prepare
presentations; perform calculations; apply safe work practices; plan and
organize work; read and interpret plans, specifications and drawings; problem solve;
prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and
concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain
effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.

Corrosion
Required Skills and Ability to:  Inspect, test, and assess infrastructure and
equipment to determine corrosion condition using standard methods and
techniques; test appropriate corrosion control methods.

CERTIFICATIONS,
LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

Licenses

* Valid California Class C Driver License or its
equivalent in state of residency that allows you to drive in the course of your
employment
