Student Interns in the Planning and Acquisition Unit will receive training and mentoring and will provide assistance with real property responsibilities for capital improvement projects, in the areas of land acquisition, appraisals, dispositions, and other assignments as needed.

Responsibilities include learning and assisting with preparing documents (agreements, permits, deeds); conducting studies and research; assisting in correspondence with property owners and internal Metropolitan groups; compiling information from various sources; providing updates and preparing reports; collecting and analyzing statistical data; generating and maintaining records and report findings; making recommendations; and lastly, learning and assisting other real estate classifications in performing ad hoc assignments related to the Planning and Acquisition Unit.

This Student Intern position will be located at Metropolitan’s Headquarters Building in Downtown Los Angeles.

Metropolitan’s Planning and Acquisition Unit will be hosting its annual Student Outreach event. The virtual event will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Registration is strongly recommended. Attending this event is encouraged but not mandatory for this job posting. This event is a chance for college students to learn more about the student internship program and hear from some of Metropolitan’s Real Property experts as they share their career experience in public agency right of way.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Current enrollment in an accredited four-year college or university carrying a minimum of 12 semester units or 8 quarter units with junior or senior standing in a related major and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or current enrollment in an accredited graduate degree program in a related major with a grade point average of 2.75 or higher

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

May be required to obtain and maintain the following:
License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Detail oriented
• Strong personal interaction skills
• Ability to research, collect and analyze data
• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite

WORK SCHEDULE:
Full-time (during summer break) and/or Part-time (up to 18 hours per week)
Estimated length of assignment will range from three months to ten months. Dates are flexible. Length of term will be determined based on student class schedule, availability, and employer needs.

PAY RATE:
$18.00 per hour if a Junior in college
$20.00 per hour if a Senior or Grad Student in college
