This is the entry level position performing Surveying and Mapping Technician I job duties. You will report to MWD’s Weymouth Plant in La Verne, CA and travel within Metropolitan Water District’s service area to assist and support surveyors in measuring pipelines, facilities and properties. You will utilize surveying techniques, tools, equipment and your fundamentals learned from geometry and trigonometry to make measurements, analyze data, interpret results, and assist with survey projects.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or certificate of High School equivalency and two years of progressively increasing responsibility work experience in field and/or office survey work; or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
Relevant Experience is defined as: background working with surveys, including utilization of survey software and survey equipment.
Required Knowledge of: Survey principles and practices; and current office technology and equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities to: Read and interpret maps and diagrams; use a variety of business and survey applications and equipment; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:
Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
Professional Land Surveyors license
