Act as structural engineering specialist in the Facility Design Team of the Engineering Services Group. Demonstrate capability of research and initiative to develop new methodologies, design criteria or procedures. Perform highly technical structural analyses and designs in supporting Metropolitan’s capital improvement projects, operation and maintenance requests and other specific programs. Must be proficient in codes, regulations and industry standards related to structural design including earthquake engineering, and application of engineering software to design structural systems such as hydraulic structures, pumping plants, water treatment plants, reservoirs, underground facilities, water storage tanks and building structures. Possess knowledge of construction practices to provide design support for construction projects and perform structural observations and investigations. Require effective verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in technical writing. Lead a design team and perform design management. Mentor staff engineers and provide technical guidance as required. Review design documents and perform QA/QC to ensure deliverables are in compliance with applicable codes, regulations and standards.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and six years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Associate Engineer level; or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience, of which two years must have been at the Associate Engineer level.

Related field of study is defined as: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, and Earthquake Engineering.

Relevant experience is defined as: Work related to structural design, analysis, investigation and modeling for construction of new structures and rehabilitation of existing structures.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s):

• Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
• License in good standing as a California Professional Engineer – Civil or Structural (required at time of application).
