CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR I
Metropolitan's Engineering Services Group, Construction Management Unit has one (1) opening for a Construction Inspector I (soils and concrete materials testing and construction inspection) available at its Weymouth Plant in La Verne, California.

This position performs entry level Construction Inspector job duties in support of the Capital Investment Program which includes applying basic skills in procedures, operations techniques, tools, materials and equipment appropriate to the area of public works construction inspection, fabrication inspection and/or materials sampling and testing. Knowledge of basic construction means and methods and construction quality assurance, construction safety practices are required. JOB DUTIES
1. Learns and assists to perform as a Construction Inspector on public works construction projects.
2. Learns and assists to perform inspections, fabrication inspections, and materials testing on construction projects in accordance with contract plans and specifications.
3. Learns and assists to perform factory acceptance testing, equipment testing and systems start-up.
4. Learns and assists to perform constructability reviews of plans and specifications.
5. Prepares inspector's daily reports including photo and/or video documentation.
6. Learns and assists to perform engineering materials tests, studies, investigations, and forensic and engineering evaluations.
7. Performs other related Construction Inspector job duties.
Work Schedule: Mon - Fri, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education development test (GED) and four years of increasingly responsible, relevant experience in a journey level craft, or construction materials sampling and testing per applicable codes and standards, or fabrication inspection and testing per applicable codes and standards. General construction experience may be substituted for a particular craft. For this position, relevant experience is defined as professional work experience in construction materials testing.
Required Knowledge of: Basic construction means and methods and construction quality assurance; reporting; basic engineering calculations; construction safety practices; materials sampling and testing; applicable federal, state, and local laws; codes and regulations; and current office technology and equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities to: Perform basic engineering calculations; use of spreadsheets; apply safe work practices; read and understand contract specifications and drawings; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.
License Required: Valid California Class C Driver License that allows you to drive in the course of your employment or an equivalent license from your state of residency

Work Environment: The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., irritant chemicals, electrically energized equipment including high voltage systems, noise, dust, working at great heights, working under extreme outdoor weather conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
Vision Requirements: Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) for Electrical inspectors.
