Metropolitan's facilities include the 242-mile Colorado River Aqueduct, five conventional water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 2.6 billion gallons per day, nine surface water reservoirs, 800 miles of pipeline, and 16 hydroelectric power plants.
GRAPHIC ARTS DESIGNER
Metropolitan's External Affairs Group, Media and Communications section has one (1) opening for a Graphic Arts Designer available at its Headquarters in Los Angeles, California.
JOB SUMMARY
As a Graphic Arts Designer you are expected to produce journey level graphic design, display, lithographic, photographic and web development products and services using proven advanced technical skills and commercial art production expertise.The amalgamation of your journey level skills must demonstrate the capability to routinely produce unique, highly aesthetic, technically correct communication collateral that conveys a corporate agenda in the following:
* Graphic Design: Using industry standard software and/or traditional manual techniques, candidate must demonstrate comprehensive experience and aesthetic application of graphic design principles, techniques, and succinct execution that is conducive to a corporate environment.
* Photography: Comprehensive technical skills and experience using contemporary photographic equipment that results in unique, effective and aesthetic composition of portraiture, environmental and industrial assignments. Journey level skills in post-production editing software for image enhancement.
* Web: Comprehensive technical skills and experience in the creation, ongoing development and management of web page and website assignments using HTML 5, CSS3 and jQuery. Thorough knowledge of technical foundation, circumstances and jargon in order to articulate, troubleshoot and effectively resolve inherent issues independently or through technical support resources.
* Illustration Aptitude: Effective skills in traditional or digital illustration that can add unique creative enhancement to work assignments.
* Environmental Displays: Comprehensive experience in producing informational signage, museum quality exhibit components and in the design, layout, and implementation of complete gallery spaces.
* Lithography: Comprehensive experience in traditional and digital printing workflows, including preparation and outsourcing management of pre-press, production, bindery and logistical requirements.
JOB DUTIES
1. Develops strategies with clients on high profile, complex, and/or critical corporate assignments and projects to convey a corporate message in a graphically concise manner; reviews and adheres to associated budget and project time-lines; makes recommendations based on project criteria and develops advanced-level solutions to meet clients' specialized and diverse graphic communication needs; develops production schedules and cost estimates consistent with assignment criteria.
2. Develops and presents corporate-level graphic communication strategies and solutions that may include specialized promotional campaigns with numerous innovative graphic displays, print, and online media elements. Routinely develops concepts, creates designs, and produces sample layouts and final artwork based on layout principles and aesthetic design composition for corporate partners, executives, managers, and customers.
3. Provides graphics project management and/or research, design development, art creation, maintenance or programming support of the Metropolitan's Internet and Intranet web sites.
4. Designs, prepares and revises advertisements, publications, displays, exhibits, and publishing materials manually or by using desktop publishing applications and graphic input and output devices; routinely works directly with upper and executive management to produce visual and graphic communications for internal and external audiences.
5. Researches and evaluates industry standards for page and document layout and graphic design applications, training, and equipment; makes recommendations for inclusion into production environment.
6. Acts as information technology liaison: performs testing on graphic and page layout applications, identifies and troubleshoots technical issues, and coordinates system upgrades and solutions.
7. Coordinates technical production, timeline and budget with internal and external service providers.
8. Leads and develops project specifications for outsourcing assignments, evaluates vendor cost estimates and recommends selection. Coordinates assignment specifications, production timeline, deliverables, and budget with internal and/or external service providers. Monitors and insures contracted work meets quality standards. May assist in developing the scope of work for outsourcing vendor solicitations, and may participate in vendor screening process and selection committees.
9. Maintains and assists in the modification of the project tracking system. Produces project tracking system reports. Enters and maintains project data in the project tracking and production file management system.
10. Provides production, revision, and maintenance of technical and isometric illustrations
11. Performs other related Graphic Arts Designer job duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and seven years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or three years in a MWD Graphic Technician III classification. Relevant experience is defined as professional graphic design experience.
Required Knowledge: Current desktop publishing, photo editing, page layout, illustration, web development, graphic file management and standard corporate productivity applications; contemporary graphic design, print, and online media principles; color and page layout theory and font usage; techniques, practices and terminology of the graphic design, print production and online media industry; input and output devices; and digital photography and post production; and current office technology and equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities to: Utilize advanced graphics, design, layout, and desktop publishing applications and associated techniques; develop and implement complex, innovative and effective graphic communication and online media strategies and solutions for business, regulatory, educational and public outreach audiences; communicate effectively orally or in writing; exercise excellent problem solving skills; efficiently organize and manage time: perform manual art production; work independently and as part of a team; interpret and meet customer needs; develop and present innovative and high profile graphic communication strategies and solutions; work under tight deadlines; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.

Valid California Class C Driver License that allows you to drive in the course of your employment

On occasion, may travel to and perform assignments at field facilities.
Vision Requirements: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), and Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
