The City of Gainesville’s Public Works Department currently has an opening for a qualified Labor Crew Leader II in their Road Rebuilding/Asphalt Section.
We are looking for an individual skilled in asphalt, paving and concrete construction to supervise, plan and coordinate the work of multiple crews responsible for street paving, road building and concrete repair and maintenance.
To qualify for this position you must possess a high school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma and have four (4) years of experience with construction, maintenance, and repair of public works projects, including two (2) years of experience supervising or leading semi-skilled to skilled workers in the performance of street maintenance and repair activities.
Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
Preference will be given to those candidates who have:
- At least two (2) years' experience supervising 10 or more employees with activities involving more than one trade skill
- At least four (4) years’ experience of asphalt paving, road rebuilding and concrete construction
- Knowledge of heavy equipment used in asphalt paving and road building operation
- Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
A typical day of work may include leading and assisting paving crews in paving operations; keeping records and inputting data in computer database (work orders including hours worked, materials and equipment, timesheets and leave slips); attending pre-construction meetings for paving projects; interacting with the public and vendors; responding to service requests; and working with fleet to schedule maintenance and repair of equipment.

SUMMARY
This is first level supervisory work supervising, planning and coordinating the work of multiple crews of primarily skilled and/or semi-skilled workers performing a variety of street and storm sewer construction, maintenance and repair activities.
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its supervisory responsibilities.
