JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director, Marketing & Communications reports to the CEO/General Manager and works with all departments. The Director supervises the Communications Specialist. This position is responsible for a variety of programs such as the Cooperative’s marketing plan and the department’s annual budgeting and communication plans. The Director, Marketing & Communications builds and maintains a positive image for the Cooperative with Members, government entities and agencies, other utilities, vendors, and the general public. This individual represents the Cooperative at meetings, community functions, employee activities, and works with Trico staff to develop and market programs and services. The Cooperative supports a positive work environment that emphasizes the Company’s current mission statement and core values.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching, counseling, and teaching; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  2. Supports corporate business systems and policies, procedures, and practices relative to supervisory responsibilities.
  3. Displays a participative style of leadership by encouraging constructive handling of conflict, providing and accepting feedback. Encourages co-workers to use creativity in an effort to find ways to eliminate unnecessary tasks and to streamline others. Demonstrates relationship of respect for all employees and encourages the same in others.
  4. Instills a spirit of teamwork in his/her section and maintains an atmosphere in which each section member is respected as an individual.
  5. Keeps the CEO/General Manager informed of the status of projects and/or situations arising in the communications work unit.
  6. Develops the department’s annual work plan along with annual operating and capital budgets and recommends them to the CEO/General Manager for approval. Once approved, monitors progress and takes corrective action if required.
  7. Keeps the CEO/General Manager informed of government and community issues that are pertinent to the Cooperative and its Members.
  8. Responsible for the development and implementation of a coordinated and systematic informational program ensuring that Directors, Members, employees and the general public are informed of Cooperative programs, projects, activities, communications plan, and special events through customer newsletters, ads, brochures, etc.
  9. Has responsibility for managing special events such as the Annual Meeting, Trico Member Event, and other informational meetings for members and employees.

 

 

  1. Responsible for the development and implementation of Trico’s online presence, including the Trico website and other media sources such as Facebook and LinkedIn.
  2. Plans and oversees Trico’s advertising and promotion activities including print, electronic, direct mail outlets, website, and videos.
  3. Responsible for the development, implementation and management of the Washington Youth Tour and the Trico Foundation Scholarship Program.
  4. Manages, leads, and directs Trico’s corporate giving, including the annual POWER Grants corporate giving program and the Trico Charitable Trust/Operation Round-Up giving program. Monitors credit reports and rebate programs.
  5. Responsible for outreach/public relations with local government, Chambers of Commerce and schools. Acts as the primary spokesman for Trico. As such, cultivates good working relationships with the press in the service territory.
  6. Builds a positive image for the Cooperative through ongoing public contact media relations, government and key account associations.
  7. Provides communication assistance to other departments, including but not limited to filings, proceedings, and/or applications as it pertains to compliance of legislative and regulatory rules and regulations.
  8. Responsible for the marketing and program administration of Trico’s revenue-producing products, including, but not limited to the TransWorld Network WiPOWER high-speed internet and digital phone suite of services.
  9. Serves as the media contact for general inquiries, news releases, emergency and outage situations, and news conferences. Manages and oversees implementation of the crisis communications plan.
  10. Represents the Cooperative on various community boards and committees.
  11. Duties will occasionally require irregular and odd hours to perform all functions.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The Director, Marketing & Communications must have the following minimum qualifications:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, business communications, marketing or a related field.
  2. A minimum of five years’ experience of communications, marketing processes and media relations procedures for business/organization. Electric utility experience preferred.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  4. Proficiency with desktop publishing and other software, including, but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
  5. Ability to work and relate well with Trico Members, employees and the general public in a tactful and courteous demeanor. Create and maintain a clear and positive image that reflects well on the Cooperative. Personal appearance must be appropriate for meeting with the public.
  6. Ability to work irregular hours and/or overtime as required and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s license.

 

  1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The work is performed both in an air-conditioned, smoke-free office environment and outside. The job requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, and to meet with the general public and agency officials either in or out of headquarter offices. The job involves lifting in awkward positions; 20% pushing/pulling, reaching above shoulder level; 20% bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, and standing. Frequently this position requires lifting up to 24 pounds; occasionally up to 35 pounds. The position frequently requires carrying up to 10 pounds. Occasionally this position requires pushing/pulling up to 25 pounds. The position requires extensive fine finger dexterity, including simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive movements, including typing, with both hands.
