Departmental Overview

 


UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education branch of the University of California, Berkeley. Extension offers more than 2,000 courses per year in a variety of subjects both online and in the classroom. Extension's administrative departments and units include student records (transcripts), registration, scheduling, international student services, facilities, financial services, and the cashier's office. In addition to the main Berkeley center, it has responsibility for the maintenance and operation of regional centers in San Francisco (Spear Street), and Belmont and other leased facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Responsibilities

 


  • In conjuncture with academic departments and clients, develops and implements comprehensive short and long-range strategic digital communications programs and projects to manage academic design and innovation from conceptualization to execution.
  • Collaborates with external clients, academic departments, SMEs, faculty, and the ADIT team to develop and define roadmaps, goals, and requirements projects.
  • Utilizes and updates templates and processes for every step of the project.
  • Develops and reports to Director detailed schedules for all projects and oversees production.
  • Researches, develops, produces, and manages the producion of web sites/online courses, including content (as needed) and design.
  • Maps learning objectives/outcomes to create performance data and ensure pedagogic outcomes for objective-based learning.
  • Applies programming knowledge or use technical tools to enable the delivery of user behavior data related to organizational academic priorities and objectives.
  • Maintains and develops complex web sites and other digital properties with broad audiences and /or with a high consequence of error.
  • Provides high-level academic design and project management to meet both organizational and project-based objectives.
  • Manages both internal and external resources to ensure the ongoing content development and maintenance of digital properties and partnerships.
  • Manages production outsourcing projects along the whole process and vendor partnerships.
  • Applies advanced professional academic design and technology skills to design highly complex digital/online content, courses, and/or programs.
  • Manages partnerships with content developers, including onboarding and contract development/execution for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
  • Consults with Academic departments and other academic clients to develop strategic digital communication plans, programs or projects to ensure that digital communication and/or online content meets the organization's needs and effectively delivers the desired message.
  • Maintains currency with emerging and state-of-the-art technical and other web-related technologies, requirements and developments (for example, accessibility issues) and recommends or implements actions.
  • Stays current on: UX/UI, Accessibility, and EdTech.

 

Required Qualifications

 


  • Advanced knowledge of the fundamentals of design and implementation.
  • Advanced skill to monitor and assess processes or services and make necessary improvements.
  • Expert skills in partner management.
  • Advanced project management skills to complete projects within budget and time constraints. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced, deadline- and budget-driven environment.
  • Advanced interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill in trouble-shooting and applying proactive and positive solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to web sites/online courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 


  • Advanced skill in creating effective web sites.
  • Advanced understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
  • Advanced knowledge of digital communication media, including content management systems and / or relevant web applications used for web site production, and organization-specific computer application programs.
  • Advanced technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and / or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.
  • Advanced understanding of and/or ability to learn organization's processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communication.
  • Advanced knowledge of and/or ability to learn the organization, including its achievements, goals, objectives, vision and mission and how digital communication can effectively convey and advance the message to various audiences.
  • Advanced understanding of business strategies and market priorities related to online learning and achievement of organizational goals.
  • Advanced knowledge of applying adult learning theories and education methodologies in creative ways.
  • Strong background and experience in curriculum and program design.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.

Education

  • Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

 

Salary & Benefits

 


  • This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary is commensurate with experience.
