What you'll be doing
 
People love Serve. It’s unique among delivery robots in its thoughtful and engaging design, from hardware to how it communicates in the world via expressions and first-in-class tools for Operations and Merchants. 
 
You’ll be leading a passionate team in solving diverse and complex design problems. We’re looking for someone who inspires their team daily and advocates for quality designs cross-functionally. Do you have a wide range of experience from ideation to launch of features and products? Are you comfortable leading design discussions spanning user experience, visual design, research, and managing high-profile branding or marketing initiatives? Do you have great design instincts? 
 
This influential position collaborates tightly with every aspect of the product and business spanning Operations, Software, Hardware, Product, Communications, and more.

Responsibilities

    • Lead. Manage and supercharge a team of designers of all levels spanning industry-veteran to entry level.
    • Next-generation designs. Guide the design of future generations of robots, complex systems, and services.
    • Partner. Collaborate cross-functionally to shape roadmaps and deliver on multi-year initiatives, prioritizing the most valuable efforts. 
    • Raise the bar. Ensure Serve holds a high bar for design that’s reflected in the robots, their interactions in the world, and the ease of Operations
    • Communications and PR. Provide direct design support when feasible. Manage external agencies producing high quality assets including creative direction and scope.

Requirements

    • 7+ years of relevant professional experience in Design, Human Centered Interactions, with a track record of  launching successful projects or products
    • 3+ years of experience leading Product Design and research teams
    • Design work that demonstrates experience solving complex interaction problems cross-functionally to deliver on business success 
    • An ability to work through ambiguity and complexity, and lead research and testing efforts to quickly validate approach and test assumptions
    • Being an excellent communicator who can partner with product and operations, to define requirements, inspire with what’s possible, and provide a compelling vision of what the next evolution of the features and products should be

Bonus

    • Experience with autonomous vehicles, robots, or drones
    • Experience with safety-critical systems or other complex real-time UIs
    • Hands-on experience with hardware or industrial design
    • Startup experience growing a design team
    • Experience managing external design agencies
