KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Methods, means and materials used to perform work in the assigned position.
Use and basic maintenance of light and heavy vehicles.
The operation and maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools and power equipment.
Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
Basic office administration and equipment, including computers and calculators.
Knowledge of standard practices, processes, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and improvement of electrical equipment and systems.
Knowledge of electric construction standards, practices, and procedures for electric metering and relay power systems.
Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and principles.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the position.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules, regulations, and practices required in electrical trades.

Ability to:
Follow written and oral instructions.
Implement City and department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Perform a wide range of construction and maintenance activities, using standard methods and equipment.
Organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
Operate a personal computer and other electronic equipment, including field entry devices and cellular phones.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to read electrical one line drawings and protection and control schematics.
Assist and support team performance and work cooperatively with other team members.
Provide positive support to internal and external customers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to drive, climb, bend, lift, stand, sit, read, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools and controls.  The position requires mobility.  Most duties are physically demanding requiring the movement of materials weighing up to 60 pounds.  Movement of materials weighing 25 pounds may consume up to 80% of the work period.  Duties require operation of motorized vehicles, use of heavy, moderate and light equipment and tools.  Activity and types of duties performed require moderate to heavy exertion, manual coordination and physical dexterity.

The majority of duties take place outside with exposure to all types of weather conditions and terrains.   Additional exposures include contact with energized conductors, dirt, dust, fumes, traffic, exhaust, noise, chemicals.
