The role holder reports to the SVP of CMB Portfolio Management.  Coverage is for all CMB segments in the US.  Key responsibilities 

  • Review and approve use of balance sheet for new money and renewal requests, including the review of deals for Deal Prioritization Committee (DPC)
  • Provide reporting of portfolio analysis and transaction approvals to appropriate CMB management regionally and globally
  • Liaise with deal teams and Risk to manage the monthly Worry Watch Monitor
  • Manage the quarterly ancillary revenue tracking process
  • Undertake projects to improve capital/RWA allocation across products, segments and geographies
  • Monitor and advise CMB's position against risk concentration limits 
  • Develop and maintain portfolio management policies, procedures and information at a site accessible by front line
  • Support portfolio risk management activities as required by the business
  • Assist partners including Risk, Finance and Compliance with information and assist with projects requiring Portfolio Management input
  • Other general activities as may be required to fulfill Portfolio Management's objectives
Impact on the Business
 

The role-holder will work with CMB client managers, product partners and management to ensure the principles of portfolio management are central tenets of client management and new business. This will improve risk/return and portfolio risk management. 

 
Customers / Stakeholders
  • Work with CMB Business, related Product Partners and related functions. 
  • Assist in establishing & fostering relationships with other departments responsible for delivering the proposition – e.g. Segments, IT, Risk, Compliance, channels, Operations, Change Delivery, etc.
Leadership & Teamwork
  • Support the SVP of Portfolio Management and the broader team including the Head of CMB Lending & Transaction Management/Portfolio Management
  • Embody the Group's values and global standards in every aspect of how you operate as a CMB professional
  • Act as a team player, supporting development of a positive, collaborative culture consistent with Group values
  • Provide active feedback to seniors on process, operations, risks etc., and make recommendations as to how these can be changed to secure the customer and the bank.
  • Coach and provide development support to RMs / ARMs on portfolio management skills, taking a genuine interest in their progression

  • Support the Head of CMB Lending & Transaction Management/Portfolio Management and the broader team to maintain proper portfolio risk and transaction management
  • Implement agreed governance structure to ensure delivery of assigned work streams
  • Maintain and observe HSBC control standards, implement and observe Group Compliance Policy, including the timely implementation of recommendations made by internal/external auditors and external regulators
  • Implement the Group compliance policy locally by containing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Global Business Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators
  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned
Major Challenges  
 

One of the key strategic aims of Global CMB is to drive consistency in our business and standardize the way CMB operates to support our evolution into a global business. This objective extends to the way CMB builds, manages and distributes products to its customers.

 

The role holder will be responsible for implementation of the mentioned products growth plans, with appropriate risk management, and ensuring alignment to GCMB propositions, segmentation and participation strategies.

 

The role holder will support SVP of CMB Portfolio Management and the broader team in implementing the framework for the review all mentioned portfolios, evaluating against defined performance metrics, formulating product and business strategy, as well as structuring initiatives and recommendations to drive revenue growth.

 

S/he will be responsible to assist Head of CMB Lending & Transaction Management/Portfolio Management and SVP CMB Portfolio Management in portfolio management, including:

  • Deployment of a consistent portfolio and transaction risk management framework, maximizing value (revenue / RORWA) and minimizing risk / cost; in conjunction with key business stakeholders.
  • Development of business tracking / performance metrics e.g., portfolio analytics, pricing tools, etc.
  • Overall challenges include growing revenue and profitability in a changing environment
Role Context 
 

The jobholder will be required to support the Portfolio Management team in implementing strategy for the mentioned products, supporting CMB portfolio analytics and risk management with:

  • Segment Heads / Product Businesses / Product Providers
  • Local Markets
  • Accounting & Finance and Commercial Analytics
  • Risk Management

The jobholder works under the guidance of the SVP of CMB Portfolio Management, but it is expected that he/she exercises initiative and independent judgment, initiating and completing work in accordance with overall CMB Business Strategy with minimal supervision.

 

S/he will attend meetings with internal stakeholders, providing guidance against portfolio management strategy and governance under the supervision of SVP of CMB Portfolio Management.  

 
Management of Risk  
  • Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.

This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
  • This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.
