- An Operational risk role functionally accountable to the Issuer
Services Operations Head of Line Control based in the UK.
- The role is tasked with leading the US Issuer Services Line
Control agenda which is a risk and control function within Operations that is
primarily responsible for improving and strengthening the overall business’s
control environment. Operations Line Control is a global function that
works closely with a network of markets and city sites Operations, Change,
Product and Client Management in ensuring that our risks are being managed
within risk appetite, and provides ongoing assurance as to the adequacy and
operation of key controls. The function ensures adherence to internal control
policies, develops and delivers communications, learning and education
initiatives that deepen control culture, raises awareness of risks and
promulgates control best practices.
Impact on Business
- Subject matter expert in Operational Risk and Control
- A key focus area is oversight and management of ISV Operations
role and responsibilities relating to the Balance Sheet Substantiation
process.
- Detailed product knowledge including associated post trade
operational processes
- Develop and maintain effective governance mechanisms for risk
and control management within the business
- Maintain HSBC Internal Control standards, including the timely
implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues
raised by external regulators.
- Performing Continuous Control Monitoring on behalf of US Issuer
Services Operations (maybe performed offshore as well as onshore) to provide
assurance on the design and operating effectiveness of key controls.

across the business through proactive key stakeholder engagement at all level
of the organization

control best practices using specialist product knowledge
Major Challenges
- The role requires collaboration with colleagues across the
Issuer Services network (including the City Site locations in India and
Malaysia) and with espective HSS support functions. This requires strong
influencing and ability to work across cultures and native language. Due to
ongoing change in the organization, competitive market and changing technology
there will continue to be high demands on the operational teams to support
change and to drive efficiency improvements, reduce operational risk and make
incremental improvements in the way clients experience our services.

Role Dimensions
- HSS provides Issuer Services across 12 markets and 2 city sites,
c 500 staff. This role will be focused on the US ISV business.
Management of Risk
- The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is

personally and as an organisation. This will be achieved by consistently

appropriate financial crime risk management and fair and transparent conduct to
ensure orderly markets and HSBC apply the letter and spirit of law.
- The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks
associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of
changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements,
operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact
of new technology.
Observation of Internal Controls
- The jobholder will adhere to and be able to demonstrate
adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all
relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the
timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues
raised by external regulators.
- Analytical and detail orientated.
- Proven skills and knowledge of post trade operations functions /
working knowledge of Issuer Services as a product and/or operational risk
awareness for either/both Corporate Trust and Loan Agency.
- Solid process, risk and people management skills.
- Strong Risk and Control capability
- Appropriate personality, character and gravitas will be key.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability
to communicate complex issues succinctly and clearly
- Strong delivery focus is essential. The role requires a
proactive and articulate individual, comfortable with dealing with senior
management and able to distil key messages and tailor output to the audience
