This position utilizes journey level mechanical skills, experience and knowledge to maintain, repair or install large complex water utility equipment and systems. Responsible for performing preventive maintenance, corrective troubleshooting and process improvements on pumps, valves, valve actuators, geared driven equipment, screw conveyors, chemical feed systems (to include liquid chlorine, ozone, alum, polymer, caustic soda, liquid ammonia, fluorosilicic acid, sulfuric acid and peroxide), compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, mixers, agitators, piping, and fittings in order to sustain or improve plant capacity or operational reliability.

Utilizes specialty tools and equipment to perform precision shaft alignment, predictive diagnostic vibration testing and lube oil sampling that assists in determining the severity of equipment wear providing input to mitigate potential failures and gives recommendations for the appropriate follow-up action in order to reduce equipment downtime. Performs maintenance welding, fabrication and machining. Operates heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, overhead hoists and mobile cranes while performing safe rigging procedures adhering to proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and respiratory protection. Also, utilizes computer programs for individual time entry, maintenance work order tracking, work planning and estimating, and general professional communications.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or Certificate of High School equivalency in addition to a minimum of 6 years in a mechanical maintenance position in a pump plant, treatment plant, hydroelectric or conveyance and distribution facility or similar environment.

OR

High school diploma or Certificate of High School equivalency in addition to the attainment of journey-level skills through a recognized mechanical trade training program. Journey level experience as demonstrated by practical application of general and advanced techniques and practices specific to the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems in treatment or pump plants, conveyance and distribution, and/or power generation systems, and related apparatus.

LICENSE
Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:
• Valid Driver’s license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class A and/or B with appropriate commercial license endorsements.
• Forklift Certification
• Chemical Responder Certification
• Manlift Certification
• Crane Certifications
• Welding Certification
