CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR II

The Engineering Services Group, Construction Management Unit currently has one (1) opening for a Construction Inspector II position located at the Weymouth Treatment Plant in La Verne, CA.

JOB SUMMARY
As a Construction Inspector II (Electrical) you will assist with inspections of simple and complex facilities and equipment of various sizes while coordinating with multiple parties including outside agencies, Metropolitanís Water System Operations Group (WSO), Engineering Services Group (ESG), and other Metropolitan departments. You will have the opportunity to participate in field investigations, studies, preparation of preliminary and final plans, specifications, cost estimates and reports pertaining to a variety of engineering projects; prepare inspectorís daily reports; assist in the coordination of activities which include centralized control installation and testing, and may additionally include the coordination of instrumentation and/or flow meter installation and testing.
Your inspection responsibilities are centered within the electrical field and may include but are not limited to: inspecting conduit and raceway installations for electrical power, control, and instrumentation systems; inspecting installation of conductors for electrical power, control, and instrumentation systems; inspecting and performing hands-on testing of motor control centers, transformers, control panels, substations, pumps, motors, valves, generators, and various other various types of electrical equipment; and performing hands-on start-up and testing of new systems and installations (including working with instrumentation high voltage power systems, and equipment).
In addition to your journey level electrical experience and knowledge, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your attention to detail, organizational ability, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills as a Construction Inspector II.
 
JOB DUTIES
1. Assists as a construction inspector on public works construction projects.
2. Assists with performing constructability reviews of plans and specifications.
3. Learns and assists with preparing estimates for contract change orders or extra work.
4. Learns and assists with office engineering duties.
5. Performs other related Construction Inspector job duties.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education development test (GED) and six years of increasingly responsible, relevant journey level experience in one or more crafts, or construction materials sampling and testing and per applicable codes and standards, or fabrication inspection and testing per applicable codes and standards, or two years experience at the Construction Inspector I level. General construction experience may be substituted for a particular craft. For this position, relevant experience is defined as electrical work experience on large scale construction projects / facilities (water-related or industrial).

Required Knowledge of: Principles, practices, means, and methods of construction quality assurance, estimating, reporting; basic engineering calculations; basic construction surveying, and health and safety requirements related to construction projects; construction safety practices. Areas of knowledge shall also include the Electrical field (electrical equipment and materials installation and testing, troubleshooting and commissioning); applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; and current office technology and equipment.

Required Skills and Abilities to: Perform basic engineering calculations; use of spreadsheets; apply safe work practices; read and understand contract specifications and drawings; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.

License Required: Valid California Class C Driver License that allows you to drive in the course of your employment is required.

Work Environment: The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., irritant chemicals, electrically energized equipment including high voltage systems, noise, dust, working at great heights, working under extreme outdoor weather conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
Vision Requirements: Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) for Electrical inspectors.
