The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a consortium of 26 cities and water districts that provides drinking water to nearly 19 million people in Southern California. Metropolitanís facilities include the 242-mile Colorado River Aqueduct, five water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 2.3 billion gallons per day, nine surface water reservoirs, 800 miles of pipeline, and 16 hydroelectric power plants.
ASSISTANT ENGINEER I
 
The Water System Operations Group, Water Operations and Planning Section, Operations Planning and Programs Unit has one (1) opening for an Assistant Engineer I position at Metropolitan's headquarters located in downtown Los Angeles, CA.

This entry level position will learn and assist in coordinating, researching, conducting and analyzing projects and studies relating to water operations and resource management. Under close supervision of a lead staff, this position will learn and assist in water demand forecasting, data management, water distribution system modeling and analyses, facility shutdown coordination for repair and refurbishment, administration and implementation of water resource programs and storage agreements, development and implementation of water resource management and operating strategies, monitoring and analysis of source water supply and operations, facility planning and operations, and other initiatives as needed.

Activities include learn and assist in data acquisition, processing, analysis, and interpretation; preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and associated graphics; preparation of presentations and internal and external correspondences; development of project schedules and other project management functions; and tracking and trending of water supplies and demands.

Candidates in this position must have the ability to work independently or with a project team; be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; interpersonal skills; be proficient with the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel and Access), and data acquisition and analysis tools; process and analyze data; and be able to read basic engineering drawings and schematics. Positions in this classification work under close supervision and within established guidelines.

JOB DUTIES
GENERAL
1. Learns and assists with planning, coordinating, conducting and monitoring tests, studies, investigations.

2. Learns and assists to prepare technical documents, reports, and presentations.

3. Learns and assists with technical analyses.

4. Learns and assists to prepare cost estimates and budgets.

5. May execute mathematical, statistical, and other models.

6. Learns and assists with site inspections.

7. Learns and assists with maintaining official records, documents, and data.

8. May participate on a project team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelorís degree from an accredited college or university in a related field by hired date.
 
Related field of study in Engineering is defined as a Bachelorís degree or higher in civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical.

General Required Knowledge of: Engineering principles and practices in specific discipline; and current office technology and equipment.

General Required Skills and Abilities to: Analyze and interpret data; organize; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations.

Licenses
- Valid California Class C Driver License that allows you to drive in the course of your employment (Must have at time of application).
