Metropolitanís facilities include the 242-mile Colorado River Aqueduct, five water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 2.3 billion

gallons per day, nine surface water reservoirs, 800 miles of pipeline, and 16 hydroelectric power plants.

 

Metropolitanís Environmental Planning Section has one (1) opening for an Assistant Environmental Specialist I available at its Headquarters in Los Angeles, California.

ASSISTANT ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST I (ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING)
As an Assistant Environmental Specialist on the Environmental Planning Section you will learn about and assist with a wide variety of environmental planning functions related to operations and maintenance (O&M) and Capital Investment Plan (CIP) projects throughout Metropolitanís service area. Your primary responsibilities will involve learning about and assisting with environmental planning tasks related to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) analysis, Clean Water Act and California Department of Fish and Game (CDFW) permitting, construction monitoring, mitigation monitoring and reporting, state and federal endangered species acts, and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Additionally, you will learn about and assist with the following responsibilities: preparing and reviewing CEQA documents and technical reports, developing and overseeing mitigation monitoring plans for projects, determining the need for and obtaining regulatory permits, preparing environmental specifications and reviewing construction drawings, reviewing consultantsí work, conducting environmental awareness training, participating in field visits and field surveys, construction monitoring, preparing regulatory permit applications, and recommending appropriate environmental avoidance and minimization measures and feasible mitigation to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local, laws and regulations. This position will require periodic travel to Metropolitan facilities throughout its service area.

Effective oral and written communication skills and good attention to detail are essential.

Work Schedule: 9/80, Alternate Fridays Off

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelorís degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.

Related Fields include: environmental science, environmental studies, environmental engineering, biology, planning, geography, or other directly related environmental or social sciences field

Relevant experience is defined as: working experience involving environmental planning functions and environmental regulations including, but not limited to, the California Environmental Quality Act, Fish and Game Code, Clean Water Act, state and federal endangered species acts, and Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Required Knowledge of: Theories and practices of environmental science, basic understanding of methods and techniques used to conduct environmental analyses and investigations; principles and practices of technical research, analyses, and report preparation; and current office technology and equipment.

Required Skills and Abilities to: Problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

License: Valid California Class C Driver License that allows you to drive in the course of your employment is required at time of application.

However, some of the time may be outdoors that may involve moderate risks or discomforts. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as coats, boots, sunglasses and gloves.
