Summary

The Network Engineer position provides advanced system administrative and application support to manage, monitor, and maintain critical systems accessed by a global area network. In addition, it analyzes statistical reports and provides recommendations for capacity planning. It also ensures maximum availability of systems infrastructure through the effective installation, system monitoring and maintenance of the systems components while planning for future growth. Finally, it acts as a project leader on data center initiatives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installs, monitors, and maintain Windows servers, Exchange servers, and associated applications.
  • Manages and maintains VMware vSphere virtual environment.
  • Manages and maintains Storage Area Network.
  • Manages and maintains system backup and replication jobs.
  • Manages and maintains Cisco network infrastructure.
  • Designs and integrates Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Provides on-call 24X7 coverage.
  • Develops detailed network specifications and adheres to standards in support of new project scope work.
  • Develops and recommends strategies for network growth, security, and enhancements by maximizing functionality of network equipment such as routers, bridges, gateways, switches, concentrators, and hubs.
  • Interfaces with vendors and suppliers to ensure adequate delivery and maintenance of equipment and services.
  • Performs network analysis and capacity planning and testing for organization's LAN and WAN environment.
  • Assists in the creation of processes and procedures for network operations.
  • Maintains library of associated materials for all equipment, processes, and procedures.
  • Designs, installs, and tests network topologies to support Internet and other data transport channels.
  • Supports installation and maintenance of PC and Server hardware and software.
  • Designs, installs and troubleshoots network issues based routing and bridging solutions.
  • Performs routine and emergency maintenance of all data center equipment.
  • Provides network performance monitoring and analysis.
  • Analyzes and evaluates LAN and WAN changes, additions and reconfigurations.
  • Contributes to development and administration of network backup and recovery plan to maintain LAN and WAN network systems operation.
  • Identifies and corrects faults and provides resolution of complex problem tickets escalated from the help desk.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or certification in MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, or VCP, or VCA.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in a Network Administration capacity.
  • Advanced knowledge of installation, administration, and maintenance of Windows Server operating systems, MS Exchange, MS SQL, MS IIS, VMWare, and storage area networks.
  • Advanced knowledge of the following data center functions: backups, system monitoring/troubleshooting, report generation and distribution.
  • Intermediate to advance operational and working knowledge with mainstream operating systems and their respective products required.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking and LAN/WAN concepts, networking protocols, and design.
  • Ability to provide advanced system administrative functions and application support on supported systems.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Ability to determine how systems should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
