The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a consortium of twenty-six cities and water districts that provides drinking water to nearly 19 million people in Southern California. Metropolitan's mission is to provide its service area with adequate and reliable supplies of high quality water to meet current and future needs in an environmentally and economically responsible way. Metropolitan's facilities include the 242-mile Colorado River Aqueduct, five conventional water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 2.6 billion gallons per day, nine surface water reservoirs, 800 miles of pipeline, and 16 hydroelectric power plants. This position reports out of Metropolitan's headquarters facility in downtown Los Angeles.
ASSISTANT RESOURCE SPECIALIST II

JOB INFORMATION
The Imported Water Supply Unit of the Water Resource Management Group, Resource Implementation Section has one (1) opening for an Assistant Resource Specialist II at the Headquarters Building in downtown Los Angeles. Metropolitan imports water from two sources, the Upper Colorado River Basin and the Feather River watershed in Northern California. These supplies are conveyed to Southern California via the Colorado River and the California Aqueducts, respectively. This position will focus primarily on activities related to the management of supplies from northern California that are administered through Metropolitan's State Water Project (SWP) contract with the California Department of Water Resources.

JOB SUMMARY
This intermediate level position will be responsible for assisting in the administration of contracts for Metropolitan's imported water supplies. This includes, but is not limited to, preparing reports and analytics related to the State Water Project; preparing budgets for State Water Project and water supply programs; preparing reports for contract administration compliance; and assisting in water supply planning activities. This position will provided analysis for infrastructure, energy and water deliveries related to the State Water Project and coordinate findings with Metropolitan's operations and water quality staff. This position will also assist in board letter preparation and developing PowerPoint presentations. The Assistant Resource Specialist II will also monitor water purchase agreements and process invoices for payment. Positions in this classification work under close supervision and within established guidelines.

The candidate will be proactive and exhibit patience and determination to explore a problem thoroughly so that it can be resolved accurately. The candidate must possess problem solving skills; the ability to prioritize work assignments; and multi-task. The candidate should have intellectual curiosity that focuses on creating ideas and plans for correcting issues or handling daily tasks. The candidate needs to be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and work independently and in a team environment.

JOB DUTIES
1. Assists in collecting, organizing, and maintaining data; assists in conducting water or power resource, supply and demand, climatic, economic, and demographic studies and projects; prepares correspondence, reports, and presentations.

2. May assist in conducting water or power revenue, cost, and operational analyses.

3. May assist in maintaining and operating water resource planning or power models.

4. Assists in reviewing and analyzing documents and correspondence and identifying potential courses of action.

5. May assist in reviewing legislation, regulations, and ordinances.

6. May participate on a project team.

7. Performs other related resource specialist job duties as required.

Work Schedule: 9/80, Monday through Friday, with alternate Fridays off
JOB REQUIREMENTS: EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university in a related field and two years of relevant experience; OR
two years in an MWD Assistant Resource Specialist I classification.

A Bachelor's
degree in a related field is defined as:
a Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental/earth sciences, water
resources, or similar degree.

Relevant
experience is defined as two years of experience in the following areas: work
that incorporates water resource issues, water planning
activities, or statistics. This could be obtained by experience as an
administrative analyst, management analyst, engineer, geologist, geo-hydrologist,
hydrologist, water resources analyst or related field.

Required Knowledge of:Basic
knowledge of water or power resource issues; statistics and economics; and
current office technology and equipment.

Required Skills and Abilities to:Problem solve;
prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly
and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those
contacted in the course of work; work
independently and in a team environment; and
operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND
REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid California Class C Driver
License or equivalent that allows you to drive in the course of your employment
is required at time of application
