Job Description:

Senior Network Architect / Systems Engineer will be the subject matter expert for architecting, implementing, testing, and troubleshooting enterprise networks in support of common business applications and objectives.  The Senior Network Architect will lead the design and implementation of architecture for proposals and/or projects to build or enhance enterprise networks with 1000+ sites and over 50,000 users.  This position will develop/champion new networking ideas/technologies, solve highly complex networking problems with significant business impact, work under consultative direction for long-range business objectives, and interact internally with management and customers on significant business matters.  The position also requires the ability to lead and mentor team members in the lifecycle support of the network and associated management systems, while working with operations teams to improve system availability and efficiencies. 

  • Develops network architecture designs, studies and plans; supports design, test readiness, and operational readiness reviews.
  • Provides senior program managers with recommendations on network engineering approaches and strategies for new and continued business.
  • Develops, implements, and manages network engineering processes including configuration management and design standards to ensure compliance, relevancy, and sustainability.
  • Performs capacity planning of the network by monitoring and analyzing network, performance and availability.
  • Proactively researches and evaluates tools and technologies, as appropriate, to the network environment, while developing solutions to increase performance and lower the total cost of ownership.
  • Provides Tier III support by providing trouble resolution of the network infrastructure and perform on-call duties and off-hours support when needed.

Qualifications:

  • MSEE, MSCE or MSCS with communications focus and a minimum of 15+ year’s relevant networking experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) total years of experience in the architecture/design, development, and implementation of large scale Wide Area Network (WAN) architectures.
  • Minimum of Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE), or Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) certification.
  • Must have proven ability to architect, implement and support network infrastructure solutions of similar scope.
  • In depth implementation and troubleshooting experience of networks using concepts/protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, MPLS VPNs and emerging concepts such as Software Defined Networking.
  • Experience with LAN and datacenter technologies such as Ethernet, Spanning Tree Protocol, First Hop Redundancy protocols.
  • Experience implementing and troubleshooting WAN topologies using T-Carrier and Optical Carrier circuits.  
  • Excellent customer skills for direct interaction with internal and external teams.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance.

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Exceptional verbal, written (including the development of procedural documentation), interpersonal, and presentation skills desired.
  • Experience with network and performance management tools, security tools and appliances, layer two technologies, wireless communications, cloud computing and telecommunications services and technologies is preferred.
  • Experience working in a telecommunications carrier environment performing large-scale mission critical network implementations is a plus.
  • Self-driven and resourceful in achieving goals independently as well as in cooperation with others.
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing requirements, schedules, and priorities.
  • The ability to socialize ideas, make recommendations, and gather team consensus to move forward.
  • CCIE certification preferred.
