ASSISTANT ENGINEER II - Water Quality

The Water Systems Operations Group, Water Quality Section, of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California currently has one (1) opening for an Assistant Engineer II within the Operations Compliance Team of the Water Purification Unit. This position is located at Metropolitan's Water Quality Laboratory in La Verne.

The primary objective of the Operations Compliance Team and this position will be to ensure 100 percent compliance with all primary drinking water standards. This position will assist beyond regulatory compliance, ensuring the water quality-related satisfaction of Metropolitan's customers, member agencies, sub agencies, and ultimately drinking water customers.

This position will assist with reviewing and summarizing operational data to ensure compliance with existing drinking water regulations; provide technical support to the Water Treatment and Conveyance & Distribution Sections to ensure 100 percent compliance with all drinking water standards; serve on the Treatment Plant and Distribution System Quality Assurance Teams to provide water quality perspective to ensure continued compliance with current and future drinking water regulations; assist with full-scale evaluations and process optimization studies; assist Engineering and Operations with start-up of new facilities; provide disinfection requirements and procedures for new installations, repairs, and inspections of water treatment processes and/or distribution system pipelines; perform water chemistry, hydraulics, and/or water treatment process calculations; and provide training to treatment and/or distribution system operational staff on water quality topics.

JOB DUTIES
1. Assists with planning, coordinating, conducting, and monitoring tests, studies, and investigations.
2. Assists with preparing technical documents, reports, and presentations.
3. Assists with preparing or reviewing design criteria, plans, specifications, submittals, cost estimates, and budgets.
4. Assists with preparing standards, procedures, guidelines, and manuals.
5. May assist with emergency response duties.
6. Assists with maintaining official records, documents, and data.
7. Assists with developing and directing test plans for bench, pilot and full scale water quality testing.
8. Assists with analyzing and interpreting data to develop water treatment process design criteria.
9. Assists with analyzing and interpreting data to optimize water quality performance and maintain compliance with drinking water quality regulations.
10. Assists with reviewing and analyzing water quality data and provides recommendations to ensure compliance with all drinking water quality regulations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and two years of relevant experience which must have been at the Assistant Engineer I level.

A degree in a related field is defined as a degree in Engineering (Civil, Sanitary, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical) or Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biological Sciences.

Relevant experience is defined as two years of experience in water and/or wastewater treatment processes or experience in water/wastewater regulatory compliance.

General Required Knowledge of: Engineering principles and practices in specific discipline; project schedules and budgets; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations related to area of responsibility; and current office technology and equipment.

General Required Skills and Abilities to: Analyze and interpret data; organize; problem solve; prioritize and multi-task; communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work independently and in a team environment; and operate current office equipment including computers and supporting applications.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations Requirements
* Valid California Driver's License or equivalent from state of residency that allows you to drive in the course of your employment.

Working Schedule: 9/80 with alternating Fridays off
