Duties

If selected for this position, you will serve as the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) National Firearms Custodian in the TSA Training Center Operations Section of the Training Centers Division (TCD), in the Office of Training and Development (OTD), Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Your duty location will be at the TSA Training Center in Atlantic City, NJ. You will be responsible for issuing, inventorying, and storing FFDO firearms and ammunition within the Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (OLE/FAMS) National Armory.



Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining inventory control of all FFDO firearms.
  • Coordinating the purchase and distribution of FFDO ammunition to multiple locations.
  • Assisting with the recovery and delivery of accompanying FFDO badges and credentials.
  • Serving as a Contracting Officer Technical Representative (COTR) and coordinating with program management, FAM Instructors, manufacturing representatives, and contracting vendors regarding the purchasing, recording, preparation of, and the monitoring of shipments to and from the OLE/FAMS National Armory.
  • Organizing and directing firearms warranty issues.
  • Maintaining a yearly ammunition budget and determining resource requirements by analyzing, evaluating, and forecasting projected ammunition purchases based on input from headquarters and field entities.

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-H pay band (equivalent to GS-12), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-G Pay Band or GS-11 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience includes:

  • Providing operational support in the procurement, storage, issuance, and inventory control of ammunition and firearms;
  • Applying inventory and cataloging procedures to document and verify property; and
  • Using software such as Microsoft Office and complex databases for record keeping and information gathering.
To qualify for the SV-I pay band (equivalent to GS-13), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-H Pay Band or GS-12 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience includes: coordinating with program management, manufacturing representatives, and vendors to purchase, record, prepare, and monitor firearm shipments and direct firearm warranty issues; AND accurately maintaining an annual ammunition budget and determining resource requirements.

Note: Selectee must be able to complete Contracting Officer Technical Representative (COTR) training and certification.
