JOB SUMMARY:

Sources, plans and purchases raw materials, components, assemblies and/or MRO supplies (“Parts”). Ensures that critical parts are delivered in the appropriate time frame and to the required specification.

DUTIES:

  • Establishes sources of supply, obtains quotations, administers bids and purchases a group of parts
  • Plans and places Purchase Orders in accordance with production requirements generated through the Gillig MRP system. At times may be required to place Purchase Orders against preliminary Engineering information for parts with no MRP demand
  • Ensures all purchase orders are received and acknowledged by Vendors
  • Expedites orders, when necessary, to ensure parts arrive as required
  • Coordinates with and/or communicates to Production any shortcomings in the supply chain. Proposes alternative parts and/or plans to resolve the shortcomings
  • Coordinates with Engineering, Sales and other departments to obtain beneficial pricing, sourcing, warranty and other contractual arrangements that impact the sale and delivery of buses
  • Works closely with Warehouse personnel to ensure delivery of purchased parts to Production
  • Maintains a close relationship with the Receiving Department to monitor the receipt of parts. Takes necessary actions to correct any receiving discrepancies
  • Maintains a close relationship with Accounting Department to verify and approve inaccurate invoices from Vendors. Takes necessary actions to correct any billing discrepancies
  • Monitors, facilitates and advises on changes in material requirements
  • Develops and prepares reports
  • Works on special projects, as assigned
  • Develops and implements cost saving strategies

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

The Buyer will work closely with multiple departments, including Engineering, Production and Warehouse to optimize GILLIG’S supply chain. Applicants must be organized, detail oriented, have strong analytical skills and have the ability to effectively multitask. A working knowledge of Excel, Word and Power Point is required. ERP/MRP experience is a plus. The ability to effectively communicate through a wide range of formats is essential. Candidates must have a BA/BS in a related field or equivalent experience in the Procurement field.
